Departmental Overview The Career Center within student affairs operates with three primary departments, all of which rely heavily on data to report out to numerous campus stakeholders' on annual data collection of Cal students. These departments are The Counseling department, External Relations and Administrative Services. This data in turn drives how the Career Center ultimately provides services and programs for the students it serves.
Responsibilities Survey Development and Data Collection:
Coordinates the collection of data. Gathers, prepares and summarizes the collection of information through survey tools; recommends statistical approaches; conducts and reports analysis at regular intervals, outlining effectiveness of Career Center programs, stating Learning Outcomes and departmental goals.
Develops systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends. Identifies multivariate strategies, prepares data for presentations and prepares reports of studies for internal validation and cross validation studies.
Provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in in the field of Student Affairs including the preparation of proposals, design of some surveys, and sampling procedures.
Employs complex data systems and other resources for projects working directly with all levels of managers. Performs complex research and studies for a variety of internal department constituents.
Analyzes the interrelationships of data and defines logical aspects of data sets. Supports the Employer Relations Team by collecting, analyzing, maintaining and providing written reports for team.
Supports the Counseling Team by collecting, analyzing, maintaining and providing written reports for team. Supports Director routinely with reports in real-time to interpret raw data for stakeholder requests. Summarizes trends, sources and uses. Database Management:
Manages database of research data for projects. Plans long-term statistical studies, including the preparation of proposals, design of survey instruments and determining sampling procedures.
Reviews new software instruments and potential effects on statistical testing. May make programming modifications. Keeps abreast of technical advances in storage, documentation and dissemination of computerized data. Participates in development and implementation of data security policies and procedures.
Trend Analysis and Reporting
Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the Career Center. Develops and presents complex proposals and/or reports on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options.
Assists in developing operational structures (e.g., operational calendar) that lead to organizational effectiveness. Creates timely, professional presentations and written reports for campus and departmental stakeholders
Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming: SDA (Highly secure Web Based Awarding Winning Survey Data Analysis system https://sda.berkeley.edu/), AMCAS (Centralized American Medical School Application System ), MS Excel (including Pivot Tables & Crosstabs), SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Tableau, Google Analytics, Handshake, IPEDS.
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Skills in project management.
Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
Experience with Statistical programs such as SAS, SPSS and Previous computer programming experience a plus.
Possess advanced skills to create, combine and analyze database of multiple-year outcomes from Career Destination Surveys
Knowledge of advanced statistics to determine if correlations are correct, results of surveys are dependable, and advise in the creation of survey questions. Experience with evaluation processes in order to evaluate effectiveness of propose evaluation
Experienced user of internal data systems: CalAnswers, UCB Office of Planning & Analysis
Knowledgeable about best-practices of use of data in Higher Education. Highly Familiar with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training and/or equivalent experience/training.
Masters degree is Statistics, Mathematics or related area preferred.
Salary & Benefits Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is: $69,000 - $86,000 (at 100% fte)
