Cornell’s Division of Alumni Affairs and Development (AAD) seeks a strategic and innovative leader to serve as its next Director of Advancement Services. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Operations, the Director of Advancement Services is responsible for creating and implementing the overall vision and strategic direction for the Advancement Services team. About the Position...
The Director is responsible for leading a best-in-class Advancement Services team that serves Cornell’s alumni affairs and development operations, as well as to numerous University partners. The Director will create and manage an effective infrastructure to maximize fundraising and constituent relations efforts by optimizing business processes and systems and providing timely analysis to support data-driven decision-making in anticipation and support of customer needs. The Director will drive innovative solutions to enhance the delivery of services to ensure accurate and timely recording of gifts and pledges in support of AAD’s fundraising mission. They will create and maintain a program of policies and procedures for the effective management and control of these functions, and develop training programs to ensure all team members have a solid understanding of fundraising programs, strategies and information systems. The Director also serves as the compliance officer for these functions.

We are seeking a leader who will develop a strategic vision for this critical function, who is adept at leading and managing a team of gift services professionals and collaborating with senior leadership within the department and across the University. The Director should be skilled at innovating and improving a service department that supports all schools and central. In addition, you will have:
Successful track record leading an organization where customer service is the primary focus
The ability to hold crucial conversations and motivate staff to stretch their capabilities in order to elevate service to Cornell
An active member of the industry, displaying solid knowledge of current industry guidelines, gift crediting and accounting/tax rules
Demonstrated success in driving day-to-day campaign activities with limited oversight
Well versed experience in Advancement Services operations with a focus on continuous quality improvement, process efficiency and technology solutions
Strong project management and a proven track record of successfully leading organizational change
A Bachelor’s Degree and at least 7 years of experience in advancement programs, capital campaign and fundraising operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience
