The Creative Copy Writer is responsible for creating impactful messaging and content that effectively communicates the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School brand. With guidance from the Creative Director and support from Marketing team, the writer conceptualizes and creates a variety of writing deliverables in the appropriate style to meet the strategic and tactical goals of each design project/marketing communications initiative. The Creative Copy Writer will work with Marketing Managers and with other directors and key leaders in the school to conceptualize and edit text into compelling and creative copy for all channels. In addition to writing and scripting for various channels, the writer will be responsible for copy editing creative materials. This person will be an effective writer, creative and strategic thinker and must be able to work on several high priority projects concurrently with minimal supervision.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary focus of this role with be writing and conceptualizing, including the ability to research independently and write divergent types of copy such as advertising, event support, web, video and other promotional messaging.
Execute against the newly developed Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Brand Standards to align the school's marketing messaging to our recent rebranded tone and voice.
Integrate brand tone and voice throughout core school messaging including compelling course titles and program names.
Interact and synergize feedback from leadership stakeholders.
Ensure all communication projects and marketing efforts comply with University Branding Guidelines and JHU Use of Name Guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in journalism, marketing, writing, public relations, or other related degree required.
Two years related experience required.
Understanding of marketing strategy required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary.
Knowledge of AP Style and ability to learn and uphold school style guide.
Must maintain a professional working relationship with faculty, students and staff.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Self-directed and self-motivated.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Three or more years related experience in marketing and communications preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent time-management skills, along with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects.
Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
First-hand knowledge of regional and national print, broadcast and electronic media outlets, and social networking, including web-based and online media/information sites.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, and Content Management Tools a plus.
