Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Director, Marketing, for Columbia College Development and with oversight from the Deputy Director of Data Science in the Office of Alumni and Development, the Associate Director, Data Science provides routine and ad hoc reports and data analyses for all units within Columbia College's Office of Alumni Affairs and Development (CCAAD). The Associate Director develops models and reports to support short- and long-term planning, including giving trend analyses, and the ongoing work of the development and alumni relations teams. The Associate Director monitors data accuracy in the University's alumni databases, proposes, implements improvements and modifications to facilitate accurate reporting on College donor populations. The incumbent gathers and formats data for the Columbia College Annual Report and for all stewardship activities for College donors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Data and reporting: Create ad-hoc reports for CCAAD staff using PL/SQL Developer and Microsoft SSRS. Work with leadership to develop reports to support the fundraising and alumni relations efforts of CCAAD. Manage and maintain multiple data-driven processes and applications; including segmentation, mailing file data, and data integrity. Use experience and skill to approach work with large data sets strategically. Understand gift sources to effectively perform analysis, assessment, and reporting.
-Strategic Reporting/Modeling and analysis: Develop models and reports to support short- and long-term planning, including giving trend analyses, ROI and cost-benefit analysis of direct marketing projects, and the identification of new donors and/or those with increased giving potential. -Data integrity: Monitor data in University's alumni databases to ensure accurate reporting. Partner with the Office of Alumni and Development's Reporting team to identify and implement strategies to continually update alumni data. -System/database documentation: Write and maintain documentation for SQL reports (table/field description, data map, template director, business rules, etc.) Prepare documentation on criteria used to generate data for the College Annual Report.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or it's equivalent required. Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience is required, with a minimum of two (2) years of work related to data analysis.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -Demonstrated proficiency in SQL is required, preferably in an Oracle (PL/SQL) environment.
-Proficiency in one or more of the following data analysis applications (R, SPSS, SAS, Python, MATLAB) and/or business intelligence and data visualization platforms (Microsoft SSRS, MS Power BI, Tableau).
-Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel) and other common computer applications required
-Excellent oral and interpersonal skills and strong project management and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
-This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Strong customer service skills and an exemplary attitude are required.

Preferred Qualifications: -Substantial coursework in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, -Economics, Business, or a related discipline strongly preferred.
-Familiarity with fundraising database applications highly desirable.
-Knowledge of fundraising CRMs and back-end data structures highly desirable.
-Knowledge of common practices in the fields of fundraising, alumni relations, development, and prospect development preferred.
-Ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organizational goals, including data mining, sophisticated constituent database queries, etc. preferred.
