Consulting for Statistics, Computing and Analytics Research (CSCAR) provides individualized support and training to University of Michigan researchers in a variety of areas relating to the management, collection, and analysis of data. We seek a specialist to lead a new initiative at U-M to support digital humanities (DH) research. This individual will collaborate closely with U-M researchers who are leading independent DH research investigations and are in need of technology platforms and frameworks for digital humanities; a primary responsibility is providing both guidance and hands-on development in short-term and long-term DH projects. The specialist will be expected to keep abreast of DH projects at U-M and other institutions, as well as DH funding opportunities. A second central responsibility is to map out available resources and partnerships and propose initiatives for enhancing support of DH scholarship on campus. The position also involves training, including classroom-style teaching and development of training materials. The position will involve working with the U-M Humanities Collaboratory, the University of Michigan Library, the Institute for the Humanities, and an advisory team from the College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts, and the Office of Research.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree.
Please note: This is a term-limited, three-year position with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability.
A Master’s degree in a humanities or information science field or a related domain with 4-5 years of experience in the field.
Excellent communication skills, and a high level of autonomy and initiative.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work as part of a team or individually while meeting deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
Ability to develop training materials and teach in a classroom-style setting involving the skills listed above.
A doctoral degree in a humanities or information science field or a related domain with significant training and experience in technology platforms and frameworks for digital humanities research, curation, preservation, and publication.
Evidence of successful academic collaboration.
Prior project management or administrative experience.
A positive attitude toward continuously learning new skills.
