The McNair Program Coordinator position is contracted for 12-months. The position is 100% federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Grant. This position has significant responsibility for the day-to-day activities and services of the McNair Scholars Grant Program, in cooperation with, and with direction from, the Program Director. The Program Coordinator reports to the McNair Program Director.
The position is responsible for delivery of services to scholars including recruitment, intake/follow-up interviews, evaluation, tracking, and coordinating implementation of the research and graduate school preparation plans, and other services as required by the grant proposal. Implements and organizes the implementation of scholarly activities such as internships, educational activities, tutoring, and assistance with admission to graduate programs. Attends conferences and events with scholars, as needed, some overnight/out of state travel required. Maintains the databases and tracking systems for current scholars and graduates. Assists the Director with program evaluation by generating and compiling data for the McNair Annual Performance Report. Implements program marketing, identification, and recruitment of McNair program scholars. Provides effective support and follow-up for former scholars through emails, telephone calls, and letters, including support for students working toward post baccalaureate goals. Guides new scholars through initial program integration. Works collaboratively with other campus departments, staff, administration, and faculty for scholar recruitment, events. Revises and maintains program policy and procedure manuals and handbooks for the program. Meets regularly with current/alumni scholars for Academic Counseling. Day to day accounting processes, including processing payments, account reconciliation. Assist with coordination and interaction of program mentors. Provides administrative support for the program including travel arrangements and event planning for scholars and staff. Performs other duties within the scope of the department’s responsibilities as defined by the Director.
Master’s degree or equivalent research experience required. Experience working with low-income, first generation and/or underrepresented students, preferably in a higher education setting, including experience with academic advising or counseling and experience producing/scheduling/organizing workshops and seminars preferred. Related experience in assessing learning outcomes for student services programs; working with a student information system; providing academic and personal advising to students; providing workshops relevant to college students as in graduate school selection and admission requirements; coordinating student travel to conferences and campus visits; and supervising and evaluating student staff. Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills required. Experience with marketing and social media advertising and interaction. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with Student Access Database software, preferred. Knowledge of the graduate school application and post baccalaureate process and standards strongly preferred. Ability to understand and react appropriately to requests from a variety of constituencies, such as students, prospective students, staff, faculty and public.
