The Network Automation Technical Program Manager will have ownership and responsibility for the efforts within Networks to develop and integrate new network automation capabilities. The Network Automation Technical Program Manager, reporting directly to Networks top leadership, will work across units in the GlobalNOC and Campus Networking to build and implement an automation program.
The Network Automation Technical Program Manager is both technical and strategic, tasked with understanding the current technology environment for network automation as well as understanding how the teams of Networks do their work and how to integrate automation into that to improve outcomes. To develop and maintain a deep understanding of network automation technology, the Network Automation Technical Program Manager will engage with relevant communities such as the Metro Ethernet Forum, TM Forum, NANOG NetDevOps, etc.
The Network Automation Technical Program Manager will also be responsible for taking a leadership role within the Research and Education community, working with collaborators in the community and sharing what is learned publicly.
The Network Automation Technical Program Manager leads project teams made up of software developers, network engineers, and service desk personnel related to the network automation program.
The Network Automation Technical Program Manager will work independently with high level direction from the GlobalNOC Director of Engineering.
Note: This position is funded for two years with the potential for renewal.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in related field required and five years of experience in information technology, data networking and telecommunications; with three years of experience in network planning and architecture (may be concurrent) and project management experience. Demonstrate extensive experience with network engineering, and in working with various IT groups and outside vendors. In-depth knowledge of technical specialty and perform duties at the highest level of technical competency.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Current and expert knowledge of telecommunication technologies and networking standards. Ability to develop and maintain deep understanding of diverse technologies related to automation including: Network Operational Support Systems (OSS), Network device interface technologies (NetConf, NAPALM, Openflow, etc), and cloud orchestration technologies. Ability to apply technological understanding to required business outcomes, workflows, and current team staff environments to create plans for automation projects. Ability to lead small teams of technical staff from multiple parts of the Networks organization. Able to communicate complex topics to multiple technical, managerial, and executive audiences. Willing to travel and independently engage with relevant communities.
