The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The salary range for this classification is $4,372 to $10,478 per month.
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Business Analyst to be responsible for student support, retention, and graduation related technology initiatives and coordinating with campus and Chancellor's Office contacts. The incumbent will work on technology-related projects and initiatives including, but not limited to: student information systems, CRM products, college planning tools, "eAdvising", electronic transcripts, predictive analytics, college-readiness assessments, student recruitment, early warning systems, admissions evaluation, transfer credit articulation and evaluation, degree audit systems, as well as institutional, state, and federal educational data reporting. The incumbent will coordinate with Chancellor's Office leadership to prioritize projects that will support campuses in streamlining business processes and supporting the needs of students. The incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively with campuses, cross-divisional managers and committees including: the Student Administration Users Group (SAUG), Admissions Advisory Committee, Common Management Systems (CMS) managers and staff, campus Enrollment Managers, Directors of Admissions and Records (DAR), State University Registrars (SUR), Financial Aid Directors, Extended Education, Cal State Online, and campus-based institutional research directors.
Under the general direction of the Director of Enrollment Management Services, the Business Analyst will: -Research, analyze, and document business requirements for projects. Identify, formulate, and define new and ongoing project requirements. -Participate in formulating and defining functional and technical project requirements, scope and objectives -Investigate existing technological systems and makes recommendations on usage and/or modifications to business requirements -Make system recommendations and participate in setting system priorities and project planning -Participate in formulating and defining system scope and objectives -Participate in designing systems and process solutions to meet business requirements -Recommend enhancements to existing systems to meet business requirements -Create functional design documents -Works with technical staff to create, high level functional design documents, and system testing scripts -Works with technical staff to test system functionality and document testing results -Create user manuals and train users on the usage of applications -Coordinate the development of new applications and enhancements -Interpret, document, and communicate procedures and guidelines to users -Recognize and identify training needs and recommend appropriate method of delivery; and initiative and ingenuity to solve problems and to suggest improvements -Work with technical staff to create user manuals and other program documentation -Collaborate with technical and program administrators to train campus users on the usage of business systems -Communicate clearly and effectively, with technical and non-technical individuals within a culturally diverse environment. -Other duties as assigned
This position requires: -A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university or an equivalent combination of education and related experience -Minimum 3 years of Student Information Systems functional experience working with the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application. -Willingness to travel in California and occasionally to other domestic destinations to meet with constituent groups, as required. -In depth functional knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application -Application implementation life cycle skills including experience developing requirements, fit/gap analysis, and the ability to translate business requirements into functional designs. -Excellent written and advanced verbal communication skills (including exceptional listening mentoring and collaboration abilities). -Work independently, organize and plan work and projects, including handling multiple priorities in a project environment -Knowledge of project implementation and project management -Ability to analyze problems to make appropriate recommendations -Communicate clearly and effectively, with technical and non-technical individuals within a culturally diverse environment. -Ability to perform systems and applications needs analysis, and create proposals and requests. -Ability to apply consultative skills to assess user needs and issues and communicate technology systems and solutions. -Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively establish and maintain working relationships across functional groups and various levels of professionals within the organization. -Strong public speaking and presentation skills. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to synthesize functional and technical project requirements for a variety of audiences. -Ability to analyze, interpret and explain legislation, policies and technical procedures. -Skilled in working independently, exercising good judgment and implementing planning activities -Demonstrated experience working with various constituent groups in developing applications or programs in order to work with invested parties. -Knowledge and experience in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Project and Outlook and online content editors to facilitate project.
