Centre College, a national, four-year private liberal arts college that U.S. News & World Report continuously ranks among the top-50 in the nation, is accepting applications for the position of Special Assistant to the President & Director of Institutional Planning. This position is a senior officer for the College and shall serve as project manager by planning, prioritizing, and implementing various projects from the President’s office, serve on college committees, represent the President at designated internal and external functions, and develops and coordinates presidential communications.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate progressive levels of responsibility in prior jobs, should possess strong interpersonal skills and be effective in both oral and written communications. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master's or Ph.D. preferred.

The Special Assistant to the President, Director of Institutional Planning reports to the President and serves on the Senior Staff team. He/she serves as strategic advisor to the President. He/she assists the President in project planning, prioritizing and implementation, presidential communications and community relations.
Essential Job Functions:
Acts as project manager for presidential initiatives including but not limited to the below activities:
Helps to facilitate strategic planning processes, providing expertise and program management for specific strategic initiatives out of the President’s office that are critical in meeting the institution’s strategic planning goals.
Responsible for interacting with colleagues across the college to ensure institutional alignment and synergy with the strategic plan.
Provide oversight for ongoing projects supporting the President’s agenda, ensuring all are effectively moving according to plan objectives, established milestones and measurement criteria.
Assume responsibility for presidential initiatives requiring campus-wide coordination.
Serve as advisor and confidant to the President, providing knowledge and status about a variety of College issues and being prepared and able to state the President’s position on a variety of issues.
Builds and nurtures relationships to serve as a resource for the President and point of contact as designated for key constituents to resolve complex issues and help move forward strategic priorities.
Maintain high levels of confidentiality on sensitive issues and on all matters related to relationships with the President.
Conduct independent research to support Presidential initiatives; gather, investigate, research, analyze, and/or study information affecting college-wide operations.
Provide support in responding to requests of the President, collecting reliable information to assist the President in responding, and making referrals to various constituents.
Assist the President with ongoing functions, communications, special projects and external requests.
Undertake special projects and perform other duties as assigned to alleviate the workload of the President and at the discretion of the President.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. Requires a minimum of five years of increased responsibility.
Knowledge and Skills
Must be organized and adept at managing multiple responsibilities and tasks while working effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies including Senior Staff, faculty, and staff. Exemplary writing, editing, and proofreading skills required. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups required. Should demonstrate the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Limited pushing, pulling, lifting. Lifting would not exceed 15 lbs. Mobility on campus necessary.
