Water and Waste Management Division Manager
Position Overview The Water and Waste Management Division Manager provides guidance and leadership for multiple regulatory programs, including water supply, wastewater treatment, waste transport and aquatic health and safety, that apply Maricopa County and State-delegated ordinances, statutes and rules for plan review, construction approval and operation of facilities to protect the health, safety, and environment of the citizens of Maricopa County. Position Qualifications Minimum education and/or experience: Bachelor's degree in a work related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, civil, chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of engineering experience that includes experience in engineering project management and two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, OR by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six (6) months of employment. Working conditions: Travel to and from job related locations during the course of a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business. May be required to inspect water processing plants and property of various terrains by walking and climbing during various climate conditions. May be exposed to temperatures above 90 degrees and below 40 degrees; must be able to lift 30 pounds or less floor to waist and waist to shoulder and carry 30 pounds or less a distance of 50 feet; must be able to push or pull 30 pounds or less a distance of 50 feet. Must have manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment; Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, team-oriented activities, prompt decision-making and interaction with others; Work in close physical proximity with others; Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior and a professional demeanor. Selection Procedure The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs. All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices. Typically successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.

Experience with continuous improvement efforts and in the design and implementation of operational solutions. Experience in writing standard procedures based on government regulations, codes and employer policies. Preferred training, certifications and/or other special requirements: Specialized technical training and certification related to the water, wastewater and aquatic health and safety such as Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) operator certifications Grades 1, 2, 3, or 4; Certified Pool Operator (CPO). Training in management or supervision. |
