Department: Mechanical & Aerospace Engr Summary of Duties: As Laboratory Supervisor, serves as part of the technical laboratory staff within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE); assists in coordinating and directing the operations for the Electronics Laboratory, which aids research and instructional laboratories; assists in specification maintenance, component level repair, design and/or construction of relevant laboratory equipment; ensures availability of properly functioning instructional equipment and appropriate materials when needed; bench repairs to maintain academic laboratory course equipment in electronics shop; researches, designs, tests and develops new experiments for research in electronics and mechanics disciplines; researches, designs, tests and develops experiments in capstone lab course; writes software for Arduinos, using Raspberry Pi and DAQ Systems interface.; establishes and enforces laboratory safety procedures; provides laboratory instruction; mentors students in Capstone and Research; provides support to faculty for lab session and electronic needs; performs special projects and/or other duties, as assigned, in support of department; assists in development of instructional tools and training; provides in-class demonstrations and instruction, as necessary. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; considerable knowledge of analog and digital electronics design/repair and prototyping; considerable knowledge of laboratory methods, materials, and equipment; experience in the design and fabrication of laboratory test equipment and design of experiments; experience with laboratory safety procedures and practices. Desired Qualifications: Experience in teaching labs; understanding of software writing, specifically Raspberry Pi and DAQ Systems for Arduinos.
