Cambridge Friends School is accepting applications for a part-time art teaching position for the 2019-20 academic year. We strongly desire applicants who can teach art classes to students in grades 6-8 and enjoys working with a collaborative Middle School teaching team. We desire a teacher who is versatile, passionate about art, inventive, and enthusiastic about an opportunity to work with middle school students. The Visual Arts program endeavors to support students in the expression of their ideas, personal identities, understandings, and feelings through a variety of media.
In the art studio, the core projects involve supporting students as they work to express these identities in a variety of media (for example creating personal logos, designing a name or personal symbol in graffiti.) Candidates should be able to lead students in developing technical skill and in cultivating their voice and passion for art.
All Cambridge Friends Middle School teachers are expected to be active community members, sharing supervisory duties and demonstrate general support and care of the school community.
All middle school teachers’ responsibilities include student counsel and guidance: overseeing students' progress in special projects, Meeting for Worship, field trips, and Minimester week.

The ideal candidate:
Has a working knowledge of traditional and contemporary modes of art-making
Will be well versed in a variety of two and three-dimensional media
Possesses a working knowledge of art history
Has knowledge of inquiry-based and project-based learning paradigms
Possess foundational understanding of photography and digital media skills
Have effective classroom management skills and a working knowledge of the developmental learning needs and learning differences of middle schoolers from a variety of backgrounds
Will be a creative, thoughtful, flexible, and versatile collaborator with teaching partners and the entire Middle School faculty
Will utilize curricula that reflect the diverse cultural backgrounds of students with attention to the dynamics of multicultural classrooms
Will uphold Quaker values as a guiding principle in teaching and interacting in the school community
Bachelor’s degree in art, master’s degree in art or art education preferred
