The Manager of Food Operations and Logistics is responsible for managing and executing all aspects of Lakeview Pantry’s warehouse operations. This includes inventory management, acceptance and food safety of incoming goods, general GMP conditions and supervision of on-site volunteers. In addition, the Manager of Food Operations and Logistics will manage the overall purchasing for Lakeview Pantry.
As our organization continues to grow it has become apparent that we need to change our method of food distribution. Lakeview Pantry will move to a hub and spoke distribution model with the addition of a leased warehouse space of approximately 7,000 square feet. This space will act as the hub of the operation, with all incoming food (either donated or purchased) routed to this location first. Distribution will be made to the spokes based on orders placed by those locations. In addition, Lakeview Pantry’s Home Delivery and On-Line Market programs will be based at the warehouse location.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a mission-focused, energetic, and engaging leader with experience running a warehouse and managing a robust purchasing program. The Manager of Food Operations and Logistics must be a people person who is able to communication clearly, effectively, and compassionately. An organized and pro-active approach will be key in maintaining a highly functioning warehouse model, interacting with staff, volunteers and food donors.
Manage overall warehouse operations.
Manage warehouse management system (WMS), capturing inventory at any point in time at the warehouse, allowing for real time information for LVP spokes and the On-Line Market. NOTE: Creating the system is a one-time project, not an essential job function.
Ensure that overall procedures/processes/policies are consistent with GCFD requirements and LVP standards.
Manage the overall purchasing for LVP, ensuring that the necessary food/non-food items are available for LVP spokes, within budget and consistent with overall food sourcing goals.
Ensure that all health and safety requirements are met.
Maintain appropriate receiving, inventory, picking and loading and delivery methods.
Coordinate activities with all LVP spokes to provide the most effective use of all resources and adhere to delivery requirements.
Train all warehouse volunteers/staff to perform job duties per work instructions, procedures and policies.
Develop continuous improvement strategies to meet and continually improve the overall warehouse goals and objectives.
Manager the quality and efficiency of storage and movement of goods, emphasizing a very neat and clean workplace.
Work with providers to evaluate freight cost associated with freight from inbound vendors.
Analyze inventory levels and product demands to determine reorder levels and safety stocks that will ensure product availability and minimize inventory cost.
Other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree, strongly preferred.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in warehouse/shipping management.
Excellent leadership, negotiation and organizational skills.
Able to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to efficiently and effectively handle shifting and multiple priorities.
Have strong problem-solving skills.
Solid computer skills.
Able to lead and influence others (staff or volunteers)
An understanding of, and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone.
