We are seeking an Upper School Art Teacher to support 1 of our 5 pillars, the artistic expression. In the Upper School, the comprehensive Fine Arts Program includes Graphic Design, AP Portfolio, Photography, Sculpture, and other artistic skills. Students are encouraged to explore real life experiences through personal expression. In the process, students not only accumulate necessary information and skills, but they also produce tangible end products that are couched within real world connections. This is where you come in!
Provide opportunities for students to develop their artistic abilities and to express their personal sense of “voice.”
Teach the curriculum for classes that include: Drawing & Painting 1 & II, Photography I & II, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Fibers, Ceramics, Honors Portfolio, AP Portfolio and AP Photo Portfolio.
Have a personal proficiency in these art mediums.
Have submitted an AP syllabus to the College Board.
Proficient in linking instruction to assessment.
Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate curricular integration of technology as it relates to art.
Provide opportunities for students to exhibit their artwork in outside competitions/exhibitions, such as Scholastics, Governors, and high school exhibitions at local universities: Xavier University, Mt. St. Joseph University, Hyde Park Art Show, etc.
Represent the Upper School Art Department in presentations to prospective families.
Be responsible for maintaining an art budget, organizing and ordering art supplies.
Exhibit student work on campus and at the yearly Campus Day Art Exhibition.
Grow the department to perhaps include a course in AP Art History or digital video.
An ability to weave art criticism, art history, aesthetics into each art producing lesson, where appropriate.
Maintain a commitment to one’s own artistic endeavors, creating artwork and possibly participating in local art exhibitions.
An ability to bring a global mindedness to classroom encounters.
Serve as an advisor to a group of students. These duties include the ability to:
Participate in discussions with students and parents regarding courses and schedules.
Encourage students to build faculty/student relationships that provide quality recommendations.
Serve as a member of a grade level team of advisors.
Assist and support advisees in the development of leadership.
Advocate for students and teach them to have a voice and develop relationships with adults in the building.
Mentor and support students’ regarding their social well-being.
Daily supervision of advisement activities requiring 215 minutes per week.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners of all abilities.
Participate on faculty committees and professional development as required.
A. in Art Education and meet qualification for licensure in Ohio. Masters preferred.
3+ years of classroom experience.
Proven track record of accomplishment, excellent in classroom management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
