Position Summary: The University of California, Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is a statewide program with local development and delivery. The Division's Nutrition Policy Institute is a research and policy institute that evaluates the impact of programs and policies on nutrition, physical activity, and public health outcomes. The Research Data Analyst 3 works on multiple extramural funded research projects in collaboration with multiple research staff, with supervision from Principal Investigators and input from Senior statisticians as needed.
The Research Data Analyst 3 works on research data analysis and reporting assignments focused on studies of nutrition, physical activity and obesity including organizational, policy and environmental data as well as individual level data. The position requires the ability to work effectively with multiple investigators and manage competing project demands. The Research Data Analyst 3 will be required to apply theory and put it into practice, independently performing data analysis and reporting and providing project management as needed.
The Research Data Analyst 3 plans long-term statistical studies, including the preparation of proposals, design of survey instruments and determining sampling procedures; gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes the collection of information and data, recommends statistical approaches, trends, sources and uses; prepares data for analysis and presentations, and performs statistical programming and analysis for NPI research and evaluation projects. The major responsibilities will be to create plans for statistical studies, including developing sampling and analysis plans, recommending statistical approaches and analysis plans for data once collected, prepare data for analysis (writing/editing programs to verify, recode, format, and create variables), perform statistical analyses (e.g. sample size calculations, logistic regression analyses for cross-sectional and longitudinal data), create tables/reports summarizing analysis results and contribute to writing and reviewing analysis and statistical procedures for manuscripts and reports. Additional responsibilities will include creating, managing and maintaining project databases, documenting and updating programs to ensure data quality, importing and exporting data, documenting program codes and procedures and annotating questionnaires. Duties also involve reviewing the literature and compiling findings on analytical methods used and/or study results, participation in development and implementation of data security policies and procedures, and supervision of data entry and research analysis of students, support staff and/or lower level analysts. Project management is also an important part of this position, including developing workplans and timelines, facilitating meetings/ consultations with other team members and ensuring work is completed in a timely manner.
This is a career, grant funded position and continues as funding is available.

Other Special Conditions of Employment: Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed.

Selects appropriate test formulas and performs computations such as multiple and partial correlation coefficients, t-tests, Chi-square, ANCOVA, linear and logistic regression, and determines sampling and reporting procedures. Duty 2: Creates, manages and maintains project databases. Checks data quality, cleans and records data and creates derived datasets. Creates standard analytic data files and documents program codes and procedures for use by research team. Develops systems for organizing data to analyze. Function:Data Management Percent: 15
Duty 3: Prepares reports and/or analysis of research findings for internal and external dissemination and written analytical sections for peerreviewed papers, reports and grant proposals. Function:Reporting Percent: 20
Duty 4: In consultation with Principal Investigator and research teams, design research and evaluation studies and their data analysis plans, including sampling, survey instruments, data entry programs, and results reports. Function:Design Percent: 10
Duty 5: Develop workplans and timelines, organize and chair meetings/ consultations with team members, ensure data analysis and reporting are completed on time. As needed, assist with budgeting, supervise students, administrative staff and/or lower level analysts to enter data and conduct analyses, serve as liaison to subcontractors or other analysis teams. Duty 6: Participate in the collection of interview or survey data using prepare materials. Data collection is conducted by visiting study sites and performing in-person and/or telephone interviews. Following study protocol, instructs study participants on how to use and fill in data collection materials. Function:Data Collection Percent: 5
Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or related area and /or equivalent experience/training. - At least 2 years professional experience managing data, conducting statistical analysis and system programming using SAS, Stata, SPSS, R or other statistical software. - Working knowledge of the research function. - Experience in database design, creating and managing data files and data security measures. - Demonstrated skill in data analysis and consultation and designing data management and analysis plans. - Demonstrated experience preparing reports including written analytical sections and research findings. - Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. - Strong organizational, written and oral communication and problem solving skills and attention to detail. - Ability to communicate effectively with both statisticians and non-statisticians. - Ability to manage projects, develop workplans and timelines and chair meetings. - Ability to prioritize deadlines and project management. Required
- Master's degree in public health, epidemiology and/or biostatistics or equivalent training. - Knowledge of nutrition, physical activity and obesity measurement and its analysis. - Experience designing and conducting data analyses for program evaluation. Preferred
