The Associate Director will be expected to lead and coordinate cohesive integrated marketing strategies where emphasis is placed on alumni participation, donor acquisition, retention, renewal, and upgrades.
Implement a comprehensive direct mail and e-solicitation program in support of the university's mission including concept design, message and content development, packaging, data coordination, target audience, and vendor relations.
Serve as an annual giving content creator using persuasive and creative storytelling.
Manage multiple vendors and work with internal constituents to bring projects to completion. Proactive in anticipating problems that may arise and quickly and independently resolving unforeseen situations along the way.
Negotiate pricing and select appropriate print and direct mail vendors for production, within the UM System procurement guidelines. Manage various vendors to produce highly segmented, personalized appeals with complex variables.
Submit database query requests to Advancement Services. Review query output for accuracy and reliability.
Analyze solicitation results for segment and audience performance. Provide strategy for future programming based on analysis.
Plan, implement, and execute a recurring giving program in coordination with internal partners.
Prepare and manage a budget for assigned solicitation marketing channels.
Assist with planning and execution of UMSL giving days.
Maintain a portfolio of donors and donor prospects to cultivate, solicit and steward through the giving pipeline.
Assist in other related areas as assigned, including alumni engagement programs and activities.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships.
Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive research university setting.
Skilled and experienced user of CRM databases.
Knowledge of annual giving within philanthropy.
Experience in higher education fundraising is a plus.
Experience using Ellucian Advance and iModules is a plus.
Good interpersonal skills.
Successful candidate will have impeccable written and excellent grammatical skills, particularly an engaging writing style, and demonstrated ability to create correspondence for a variety of voices and audiences. Proficiency in prioritizing and managing diverse, on-going projects, as well as ability to adhere to deadlines. Self-motivated individual with the ability to think strategically and manage multiple projects for a variety of audience sizes with multiple segments.
Ability to maintain an extremely high level of attention to detail and professionalism. Demonstrates proactive, strategic and detail-oriented approaches and a strong commitment to quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented collaboration and consistent professionalism. The ability to build relationship and work collaboratively with various university professionals.
Ability to establish rapport and cultivate relations with new and existing donors.
Data savvy with a strong interest in the direct impact of annual giving metrics.
Must use good judgement and treat confidential information with care and discretion.
