Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Finance and CFO works collaboratively with the President and Cabinet to provide leadership and oversight in the stewardship of the financial resources of the university. The VP is also responsible for overseeing the Human Resources, accounting, student financial services, risk management, real estate, and financial operations of the university.
Collaborate with the President and Cabinet in the financial planning, operations, resourcing, and stewardship of the university to ensure effective financial sustainability for the mission of the university.
Coordinate with Cabinet the development of the annual operating budget and present recommended budgets to the Board of Trustees at their meetings and other times as needed.
Ensure timely financial reporting and monitoring of university revenue and expenditures.
Prepare, in collaboration with the Cabinet, revised budget forecasts multi-year financial projections for planning and action.
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the university’s annual financial statements and its external audit.
Ensure the university is in compliance with applicable government regulations, accounting, and auditing standards.
Ensure compliance with all bond or debt covenants and other requirements related to the university’s long-term debt.
Ensure, with the president and Cabinet, the strategic development of the university’s financial sustainable future.
Ensure the design and implementation of effective financial dashboards for monitoring and utilization of the financial resources of the university by Cabinet and the Board of Trustees.
Advise the President, Cabinet, and others on matters of university policies and financial issues.
Provide oversight of human resources, accounting, student financial services, risk management, real estate, and financial operations of the university to ensure operational and service effectiveness.
Manage the university’s short- and intermediate-term working capital and reserves.
Oversee the university’s risk assessment and management program and ensure that the university’s systems of internal controls are adequate, documented, and effectively operating.
Initiate, assist, and collaborate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new revenue and cost-savings initiatives.
Negotiate and administer leases of facilities PLNU acquires for its educational programs.
Oversee PLNU’s faculty housing assistance programs and their related assets.
Serve as a contributing member of the Cabinet to ensure university effectiveness and provide insights regarding financing, policies, long term planning, financial sustainability, and the accomplishment of the university’s mission.
Analyze and resource decision-making regarding business opportunities of the university.
Develop financial analytics for monitoring and planning of the financial health of the university.
Serve on the university’s Planning Action Council and other committees as assigned.
Collaborate with other academic and administrative leaders in the establishment and maintenance of tuition, fees, room and board charges and institutional scholarships to support enrollment and net revenue goals in all programs.
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the university’s Foundation’s annual financial statements, have direct oversight of the Foundation’s external audit and support the work of the Foundation.
Resource and serve as a member of the university’s Foundation Board and provide oversight to the investment of the university’s endowment, quasi-endowment, and annuity/trust funds.
Resource the Board of Trustees and its Financial & University Services Committee.
Other duties and projects as directed by the president.
Successful and effective record of achievement in senior financial management, resource planning and implementation, financial oversight, and collaborative leadership. A master’s degree in finance, accounting, or business is preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in financial analytics, planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resourcing within a complex organization.
Demonstrated understanding and compliance with internal control objectives, organizational policies, and accounting practices of the organization.
Demonstrated practices as a self-directed leader, well organized, with effective communication skills and the ability to build positive and collaborative relationships inside and beyond the university.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an effective staff within the VP’s organization.
Ability to articulate and communicate the university’s mission and goal to broad and unique constituents.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in finance, compliance, risk management, technology, strategic planning, project management, governance, and forecasting.
Demonstrated practice of financial resourcing leadership and understanding of the non-financial influencers within higher education contributing to mission effectiveness.
Demonstrated capacity structuring contracts, business opportunities, and other financial transactions that forward the success of the organization.
Capacity for holding and functioning with a university-wide vision for the present and future of the university.
Capacity for innovation and change to promote and secure the future of the university.
Experience in a highly relational and complex system or organization.
