Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is looking for an exceptional communicator for the position of Senior Strategic Communications Consultant to work with leadership within our College of Engineering and Computing as part of a central Marketing and Communications team. This position requires talent, tact and tenacity, strong writing and storytelling skills, a collaborative mindset, the ability to influence others, political savvy, an enterprising outlook, and good doses of creativity, dauntless positivity in the face of difficulty, humor, and humility.
This position reports to the director of strategic communications in the Marketing and Communications Department, with dotted-line reporting to either the vice provost and dean of the college or an associate dean of the college. The position works closely with other staff within Marketing and Communications to achieve the college's strategic goals, and in close partnership with the primary user experience/user interface designer for the college.
Goals and Responsibilities
The person in this position will be responsible for collaboratively developing comprehensive college-level marketing and communications strategies in partnership with fellow marketing and communications staff and in collaboration with administrators, staff and faculty in the college. This will involve:
Developing effective external relations for the college in collaboration with the central marketing and communications
Advising the vice provost and dean, associate deans, and department chairs on communications strategies and outreach
Coordinating with development and alumni relations staff on alumni and donor relations communications and marketing
Developing written content for marketing materials that support the college's marketing and visibility goals, including print and digital communications materials, such as news releases, print and electronic newsletters, and website content
Developing content for and managing college-level social media channels
Providing expertise and assistance for other staff within the college and departments who are responsible for mid- to high-level communications tasks, such as online content, newsletters, etc.
Positioning the vice provost and dean, associate deans, department chairs and other college faculty as thought leaders and influencers to enhance the university's visibility and influence
Ensuring consistent messaging, brand identity and achievement of marketing goals between the college and the university at large
Along with the UX/UI designer, attending college-level meetings as co-liaison between the college and the marketing and communications department
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, business or a related discipline with a strong emphasis in written communication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired
Minimum of three years of demonstrated success in communications-focused fields related to journalism, marketing, fundraising, sales, public relations or similar fields
Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communications skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong editing and copywriting skills
Communications experience related to higher education
Five to seven years of writing- and editing-intensive experience in marketing, journalism, communications or related fields
Expertise in various computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Photoshop and/or Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign)
Working knowledge of web content management systems such as Terminal 4
Excellent photography skills
Experience in managing social media for an organization
Experience working with higher education constituents such as alumni and students
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and self-manage day-to-day operations
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues within the marketing and communications department
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence leaders
