The Research Program Manager (RPM) will facilitate an active research program focusing on development and study of health education technology using conversational agents. This position will work in close collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) on the execution of multiple federal and private research grants. The specific duties encompass research strategy and planning, project management, grants execution, and laboratory communications. It requires strong project management skills, strong grants management skills, the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and manage expectations of internal and external collaborators, as well as the ability to scientifically engage with the PI and study teams to support the scientific objectives of the program.
Minimum bachelor's degree, graduate degree preferred. Prefer training in either project management or a technical area related to the research topic (computer science, health sciences, behavioral sciences, communication, or related fields). 3-5 years of experience of directly related experience in a research environment..
Experience with pre- and post-award grant administration or similar financial administration. Preference for candidates with NIH and/or NSF grant management experience.
Excellent people management and organizational skills.
Prefer candidates with experience interacting with Northeastern University's financial systems and bureaucracy.
Research Program Oversight
In collaboration with the PI, the candidate will organize, manage, and direct a large research portfolio and facilitate cross-project learning, progress improvement, and research method improvements
Develop project plans and milestones, and help ensure execution of these plans, as well as ensuring that all grantor contractual requirements are met; Identify issues and potential bottlenecks within projects and propose potential solutions and/or options for efficiency.
In collaboration with the PI and project leads, the candidate will help with the identification, conception, definition, design, testing and implementation of usability studies with the goal of improving the user experience and engagement.
As needed, perform study analysis, research synthesis, and literature reviews; Present research designs and findings to a wide academic and non-academic audience
Manage and support throughout the lifecycle of a large portfolio of sponsored awards and agreements, including proposal preparation and submission, award review and negotiation, management and close-out.
Pre-award responsibilities include working with the PI on compiling all necessary documentation for grant application submissions (narratives, budget, budget justifications, other support and scopes of work), and ensuring submission requirements are met.
Oversee overall grant budgets and monitors lab purchases, placement of salaries, and effort allocations via detailed reports and projections.
Provide PI with projections of funding and expenditures to facilitate lab staffing decisions.
Responsible for all aspects of IRB compliance for the lab, including maintenance of study paperwork, IRB protocol submission and renewal, and security of study data. Assist PI with any other grant compliance issues.
Develop tracking systems and reporting procedures required to accomplish the above.
Organize seminars, conferences, symposiums and workshops. As needed, responsible for scheduling research team meetings and study-related conference calls and complete documentation of meetings. Organize annual lab retreat.
Maintain the lab website. Develop and maintain a centralized, public lab calendar to include: travel, vacation of personnel, protocol deadlines, lab meetings and various lab related assignments.
Maintain study-related database and ensure appropriate documentation in place.
In collaboration with the PI, hire and supervise student research assistants.
