The “NAF Future Ready Labs at Berkeley” program is a new collaboration between NAF (the country’s largest career academy network) and UC Berkeley with the goal of increasing the probability for the successful transition of low-income and diverse students from high school to college. UC Berkeley primary collaborating units include the Graduate School of Education (GSE), College and Career Academy Support Network (CCASN), the Lawrence Hall of Science (the Hall), and University Development & Alumni Relations (UDAR).
The Future Ready Labs at Berkeley program is a year-round program focused on the interdisciplinary fields in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). The program will begin as a pilot in the summer of 2019 and is intended to continue through 2024 through a gradual scale-up process. Students will be recruited from NAF Academies in California and selected through an application process. The program will include multiple programmatic components including: (1) Support for STEAM learning for students and educators in participating schools/districts. (2) A three-week summer residential program at UC Berkeley for participating students, in which they participate a mixed seminar and lab setting in a self-selected STEAM topic area. The intent is for students to participate in the program for three consecutive summers. (3) A paid work-based learning project for each student that is aligned to a career in a STEAM field.
•Coordinates program implementation and communication acting as a key point of contact for all program partners, staff, applicants, and participants. •Provides analyses for complex budget, financial, academic, data, systems and resource projects related to the UCB-NAF program and partnership working directly with all levels of managers, academics, and partners. •Monitors and analyzes a wide variety of policies, programs and issues which are complex in nature including UC and district policies which may impact the UCB-NAF Program. •Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements, finer distinctions and/or additional project/process/policy components; Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the project. •Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; researches organizational structures, policies and procedures and summarizes best practices in field and relevant implementation options for UCB-NAF program. •Researches and analyzes processes, procedures, policies and organizational structures in order to develop and/or implement changes and to provide consultative services regarding general management to department administrators. •Prepares project workplans and timelines. Coordinates implementation and communication with departments that cross organizational lines as needed. •Researches and drafts complex proposals, reports, briefings, marketing/recruitment materials, executive summaries. •Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents (e.g. including NAF, school districts, participating students) for collection and exchange of data.•Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training •Strong project and budget management skills. •Knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs and analytical/problem-solving skills. •Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff as well as youth program participants and their families; both verbally and in writing. •Strong skills in analyzing and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant program details. •Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. •Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. •Knowledge of higher education and UC Berkeley-specific organizational units, processes, policies, and procedures or demonstrated ability to learn such topics. •Familiarity with applications of project management software and techniques. •Knowledge of best practices in meeting, event, project and/or conference planning such as building an effective agenda, communicating effectively with participants, selecting vendors and executing contracts, and troubleshooting logistical needs. This is a full-time, contract role for approximately 1-2 years with the possibility of extension.
