All School Librarian and Media Specialist
We are seeking an innovative, dynamic, and civic-minded librarian to provide strategic leadership as we leverage a rich opportunity to grow our lower school library program into an exemplary preschool through 8th-grade library program that extends into and partners with our local community.
The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking information curator with an interest in developing programming that inspires transformative learning. During the 2019 - 2020 the librarian will be part of a team imagining the future of the CDS Community Library and building relationships with our partners.
Empower students to be skillful inquirers, and responsible users and makers of information
Drive a culture of literacy across our two campuses
Connect students and families to the community organizations and resources that surround us
Collaborate with teachers to ensure effective integration of media and information literacy skills in alignment with the school’s goals, curricular program, and mission
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Leadership and Vision
Take a leading role in the design of a new library space and program that will serve both our school population as well as other community organizations within our neighborhood
Leverage the library space, resources, and programming to support our school’s commitment to activism and social justice.
Network with librarians at other schools to share best practices and learn
Library Curation and Resource Management
Grow our collection of children’s and young adult literature, with a particular emphasis on curating books that reflect and appeal to a diverse range of readers
Curate a collection of materials with the primary goal of representing race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical abilities, religious, or political beliefs might result in any feeling of marginalization
Curate a broad range of age-appropriate print and digital resources that support and enhance the curriculum
Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including budget, program, collection development, circulation, volunteer recruitment/training/coordination, and physical space
Remain current on trends in media, technology and information resources
Participate in ongoing dialogues with teachers related to the integration of literature, media, technology, and other library resources within and across content areas
Partner with faculty to develop and integrate a media/information literacy scope and sequence in the Preschool-8 curriculum
Collaborate with faculty to develop and teach inquiry-based lessons and units of study that engage students in the tasks of critical thinking, creativity, and communication
Instruct faculty, students, families, and other community constituents in the use of library resources and services
Connecting the local community
Supervise and collaborate with assistant librarian
Experience and Qualifications
BS/BA Degree in a related field
2 years library science experience of increasing responsibility that has included demonstrated knowledge of technical library services, resources, and technology and/or MLS/MLIS degree equivalent
Knowledge of current trends in media, technology, and information studies and the desire to continue learning.
Forward-thinking vision and a demonstrated interest in exploring the ways literature, media, technology, and other library resources can transform learning.
Proven collaborator with a history of working closely with a variety of colleagues and constituents
Expertise in technology and ability to integrate tools meaningfully into the learning experience
Experience with and interest in inquiry-based learning
Loves children and presents a curiosity that is palpable
Position requires the ability to type, use phone, stand intermittently, walk, bend and stoop, occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of light to moderate weight, work at a computer, including viewing a monitor for various lengths of time, repetitive use of keyboard, mouse, or other control device, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate keyboard in order to perform the essential functions.
