Perform part-time operations of the instructional program. Faculty members at Blinn College are unranked and have the common title of Instructor.
Essential Duties :
Provide instruction for graphic design, photography or any classes for which the faculty member is assigned and credentialed.
Teach at a variety of times and locations as per Division needs.
Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
Maintain access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
Advise students in academic matters.
Evaluate students' performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
Submit, in a timely manner, college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
Possess a passion for teaching community college students.
Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally.
Attend college orientation and required institutional meetings.
Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
Serve on division and/or college commitees.
Assist in Graphic Design and Photography programs growth by attending recruiting events on behalf of the department. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Associate’s degree in Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual Communication, or closely related field, and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field. or Bachelor’s degree or higher in Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual Communication, or closely related field, and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field.
Required at interview: art & professional work portfolio in graphic Design, sample curricular lesson plan and a brief simulated course lecture of ~15 minutes.
1. 5 or more years of work experience as a graphic designer or art director. 2. College level teaching experience desirable. 3. Experience with teaching online courses. 4 Strong visual art studio background at the undergraduate level. 5 Ability to teach other two-dimensional foundations studio courses as needed. 6 Knowledge of on-line instructional design and Service Learning. 7. Sample of student work desirable. 8. Sample of professional graphic design work desirable. 9. Photography work experience desirable.
