The William D. Kendall Professor of Media Design Technology and Fabrication - Tenured Faculty Position
The Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design at the University of Houston seeks candidates for the William D. Kendall Professorship focusing on the areas of media design technologies and fabrication. This position will include teaching responsibilities, scholarship, and coordination of the new Advanced Media Technology Laboratory [AMTL]. Candidates should be knowledgeable and current with developments in Architecture, Industrial Design, and Interior Architecture the applied research undertaken in these disciplines and skilled at the integration of digital technologies with design.
The Advanced Media Technology Laboratory will be at the forefront of digital design exploration, fostering the advancement of a variety of media, digital technologies and advanced fabrication techniques. The AMTL will promote research and collaboration across the University. The laboratory will be home to a variety of applied research investigations. Chief among them are materials research, building envelope investigations, AR/VR, social design, and prototyping for mass production.
We seek candidates with intellectual curiosity as well as technical knowledge that can be translated in curricula, program vision, teaching and scholarship Candidates must be able to work with faculty across the spectrum of disciplines within the College as well as across diverse mediums and technologies. Candidates will assist in the education of undergraduate and graduate students providing curricular leadership in digital technologies and curating their role in an integrated design education.
Candidates will be expected to be literate in a broad range of software and hardware that will be part of the laboratory tool base. Advanced knowledge and experience in equipment and processes in the laboratory and on-going pursuit of knowledge in the field will be expected
This position is expected to help to guide the Advanced Media Technology Laboratory to become a high profile and competitive College and University asset. As a pivotal addition to the existing Keeland Design Exploration Lab, the pairing will demand integrative oversight. The AMTL coordinator must be able to understand the options and the range of complex digital capabilities, the potential of traditional methodologies, and the curiosity to continuously lead the investigation of what is possible and be able to articulate their opportunities.
