The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research (the Academy) is a non-profit organization, focused on advocacy and education in support of federal funding for medical imaging research. The Academy is seeking an experienced professional for a Director of Communications and Membership, to maintain and improve organizational branding and messaging for internal and external communications. This position will work with a two-person communications staff to create and execute initiatives intended to raise awareness of our mission and work, as well as the state of policy and grassroots efforts to our membership. This position reports to the Executive Director. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This position will work closely with a diverse membership. Specifically, this position will serve as the Academy’s messaging, communications, content and editing expert. - Oversee internal and external communications, outreach, marketing, branding for all events and recruitment to promote the organization’s mission and goals
- Bring fresh ideas to the table, be proactive
- Prepare and manage consistent messaging internally and externally in alignment with our goals
- Develop strong relationships with our members to maximize opportunities
- Orchestrate and maintain communication through digital and social media
- Maintain and expand communications advocacy efforts
- Manage newsletter and website content/design outreach
- Ensures all events are planned to capture the attention of the intended audience
- Manage the production of annual event ensuring membership engagement and collaboration
- Performs other related duties as assigned within a small organization
Qualifications: - 5-7 years experience, preferably advocacy/research oriented
- Familiarity with NIH a plus
- Strong professional writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Experience with mass outreach platforms (i.e. Informz and I4A)
- Experience with digital and social media outlets as effective tools for outreach
- Proficiency in translating complex topics into compelling stories for variable audiences
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Proven ability to work on a range of time-sensitive projects simultaneously with limited supervision
- Experience in building and supporting membership growth with successful outcomes
- Ability to take initiative, be proactive and work independently
