Summary: The Clinical Systems Analyst/Lab ensures all necessary functions associated with maintaining and updating the Laboratory Information Systems are performed. Asses, plans, implements and evaluates laboratory information system support needs for patient care operations according to own clinical judgment, policies, procedures, protocol and standards. Assist members from the Information Services team to accomplish projects that involve interfaces to the hospital main system and works to identify and implement information system solutions that support more efficient and effective work performance based on inherent knowledge of clinical functions and processes. The Clinical Systems Analyst/Lab develops and manages project plans for the deployment of new and/or changes to laboratory information system applications and serves as an educator and resource regarding system functionality. The Clinical Systems Analyst/Lab must identify opportunities for and contribute to the improvement of quality, safety and cost, as well as patient, customer, and employee satisfaction. This position helps gather data, develops and assists in formulation of data base reports for evaluation of the Lab system and for process improvement, inputs forms for building and modifying maintenance, coordinates CDM requests with the Compliance Coordinator. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Standard Work Duties: Clinical Systems Analyst/Laboratory - Develops and maintains the Laboratory Information System. Performs file maintenance, updates and documents changes to software. Tests and verifies the software provided in the periodic software releases. Software releases are tested in the test environment prior to installation to the production area. - Works as intermediary between Laboratory personnel and HIS to maintain computer equipment, and assists with identification, reporting, analysis and resolution of information system problems. Acts as a liaison between Laboratory and other hospital departments regarding Laboratory processes to develop solutions for efficiency and accuracy in work practices. - Develops and Maintains user manuals for the Laboratory information system policies and procedures for both interdepartmental and intra-departmental functions. Regularly reviews and, if necessary, revises the policies and procedures of Laboratory information system assuring compliance with various regulatory agencies standards. - Performs ongoing quality assurance audits of Laboratory information system calculations, rules logic and outputs to ensure proper functioning and readability or interpretation of reported results. Responsible for reviewing new updates and features and communicating them to laboratory leadership for potential implementation. Actively participates in the education of staff on the functionality and utilization of the laboratory information system to support the delivery of quality reports - Supports requests for data searches or extracts via ad hoc report writing software. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment and systems/technology necessary to complete duties and responsibilities that includes providing end user technical support of supported systems. Maintains laboratory records and documentation as required by Laboratory procedures and /or hospital record retention policies. Maintains patient comfort, confidentiality, and privacy; adheres to HIPAA standards. - Supports professional development by assisting with training and/or competency assessment for coworkers, new employees and students Performs the role of Project Manager when assigned and is responsible for the completion of these duties within the framework of the Project Management Office approved document templates and coordinates project tasks for successful and timely completion - Develops and manages projects for clinical information systems so that appropriate resources are utilized and time lines/critical paths are identified and outcomes met. Consistently demonstrates ability to identify system requirement/design to facilitate quality care processes, while meeting regulatory/accreditation requirements and minimizing risk. Utilizes knowledge of clinical practice and patient care processes to develop and implement information management strategies - Participates in the definition of system applications required security profiles, tables and databases. Assists with assigned system quality improvement projects before and after feature implementations to show process improvements. Communicates to IS the timelines and technical resources needed to implement assigned projects efficiently. - Participates in the defining of clinical informatics so that the management and processing of clinical data, information, and knowledge to support clinical practice and the delivery of patient care are enhanced. Serves as an LIS consultant within the Laboratory and patient care operations.
