Summary Description: The Columbia Population Health Partnership (CPHP) is an innovative new center within the Dean's Office at the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH). CPHP's mission is to connect scientific insights and innovation to societal needs and foster implementation. Seeking to create shared-value corporate and multi-sectoral partnerships through sponsored research, CPHP aims to become a leader in addressing some of the world's toughest public health issues. CPHP's work will enable Mailman faculty to continue to contribute significantly to public health science and broaden the school's already significant role in driving sustained impact and the development of scalable solutions. CPHP is seeking to hire an Associate Research Scientist who will be responsible for developing and managing the scientific content of all CPHP's research and service agreements throughout their lifecycle, including guiding partnership outreach and identifying strategic opportunities. The Associate Research Scientist will collaborate closely with MSPH research faculty and staff to support proposal development and active projects; support the Executive Director with all aspects of external partner relationship management; and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Columbia's institutional review boards. S/he will also be encouraged to pursue independent public health research for up to 15% of his/her total effort. The Associate Research Scientist's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: - Support of proposal development, including determination of feasibility of proposal opportunities, identifying relevant faculty partners and building relationships, co-developing proposals with faculty and research staff, and working in close collaboration with the Director of Business Operations to determine appropriate pricing levels, effort commitments, and project timetables. - Serve as project manager for all CPHP research and service agreements, maintaining close working relationships with faculty and research staff to ensure timely deliverables and quality assurance.- Identify opportunities for research collaboration between CPHP and external partners, working towards inter-disciplinary collaborations with contributions from multiple MSPH departments; - Manage any and all internal compliance reviews, working with the IRB (if applicable) as needed to expedite research protocols and obtain approvals on other ancillary agreements;- Assist in development of communication materials to share significant results, best practices and case studies in specific topical areas; - Assess short-term and long-term staffing needs, direct staff training and development, and collaborate on a long-term resource model for CPHP as activities continue to grow and mature;- Advance the reputation of CPHP as a center of excellence in multi-sectoral collaborations and interdisciplinary science. Successful candidates must have a doctorate degree in relevant field in public health or related discipline; record of publishing; record of grant support and supervising research teams.
Minimum Qualifications: - Excellence in research, writing and oral communication;- Proven track record of leadership and team management experience;- Must be able to take initiative, provide creative ideas and solutions;- Excellent interpersonal relationships and ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with relevant external and internal stakeholders;- Entrepreneurial drive and spirit- Strategic and innovative thinker who can develop and implement new partnership strategies and keep pace with changing trends and landscapes;- Demonstrated experience communicating results through writing, visualization and presentations, both in and out of one's own discipline; - Demonstrated experience researching, gathering and analyzing data and presenting it to senior management, while making recommendations to improve business systems and processes; - At least three years of supervisory experience.NOTE: Candidates for professional Officer of Research positions are expected to have established their ability to conduct original, independent scientific research. All candidates for all Officer of Research positions are expected to be able to work well in a team and to communicate effectively the results of their research or research activities both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience managing large and complex projects involving a wide variety of constituents and stakeholders; - Experience with statistical software such as SPSS, Stata or SAS; - Good at switching between tasks and assisting project members; - Skilled at interacting with internal and external partners; - Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and be able to deliver required results on time; - Strong analytical and quantitative ability; - Industry experience is a plus.
