Summary Description: The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) seeks a Staff Associate who will serve as genomic scientist in its genomic sequencing and analysis facility. The Staff Associate will work under limited supervision by senior personnel to perform complex experiments and analyses.Specific duties:-Employ next-generation sequencing technology in support of various biological and medical research programs, often exercising independent judgment in the course of performing specified research activities and in the analysis of results;-Execute, train technicians, and oversee a variety of genotyping assays including genome sequencing, GWAS, TaqMan, and digital droplet PCR;-Utilizing independent knowledge of the genomics field, troubleshoot novel protocols for use in the lab and independently identify issues and formulate proposed solutions;-Oversee and manage one or more specialized activities within the lab; may oversee the work of one or two technicians who conduct prescribed tasks related to each such activity;-Participate in the development of complementary research projects in coordination with ongoing lab activities and commitments;-Actively participate in meetings pertaining to research planning and results discussion; expected to analyze data and present results from components of large research projects;-May assist as needed with laboratory management tasks such as maintaining inventories, preparing reagents, or managing instruments; may design processes for these tasks and train technicians to carry them out as appropriate; may assist with other research and management duties required in the lab.
Minimum Qualifications: At least 4 years of related professional experience, which must include the following:-Specialized genomic laboratory experience;-Advanced molecular technical experience;-Experience running, managing, and troubleshooting high-throughput robotics;-Experience performing research independently;-Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills;-Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in biology, genetics, or related biological field.
