Summary Description: The Columbia University Sulzberger Genome Center is seeking a Staff Associate for its well funded and fast growing Next-Generation Sequencing Laboratory. The Next-Generation Sequencing Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing instruments. It has extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University for studying fundamental problems in biology, translational medicine and cancer genomics. The successful applicant will thrive at the interface between biology, translational medicine and computational genomics. She or he would be expected to be involved in all aspects of next generation sequencing for a wide range of research projects, including whole genome or exome resequencing, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, epigenomics, de novo genome assembly, CLIP-seq, microRNA expression and short-RNA profiling and discovery. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of molecular biology/genetics, excellent bench skills in DNA/RNA handling and library construction. The candidate should be very organized, extremely detail orientated. She or he also needs to very efficient in communication and great in teamwork. Previous hands-on experience in Next Generation Sequencing of different platforms (Illumnia, Life Technologies) is strongly preferred as well as project management experience and some knowledge in bioinformatics.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent in Biology or related field.
