Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Manager for the BSPPP – Dean’s Office. This position provides help desk and field support services to users within the Edward J Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy (BSPPP). This position also performs administrative functions on servers within the EJB technical environment. The Unit Computing Manager is responsible for completing technical projects and for providing consultation services to the various members of the Edward J Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy community.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides hardware, software, networking support and troubleshooting to faculty, staff, and students.
Reviews system logs, ensuring systems are backed up properly, performing data restoration based on request, ensuring that systems are protected with fault tolerance and power protection, and ensuring that system patches are tested and applied in a timely manner.
Responsible for generating reports from the information system used by the department and generating reports from the current print management system.
Ensures that service incidents as documented in the information system of the unit are addressed in a timely manner as deemed acceptable by the Director of the group.
Responsible for maintaining an active inventory of the technical assets in place.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary in order to support projects and short term initiatives. In addition, technical environments are constantly changing and this position will support new and emerging technologies as they are implemented.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
A minimum of two years of technical support experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Technical Certifications in cloud based services, cybersecurity, or project management
Knowledge of computer and printer hardware
Knowledge of Microsoft Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft Office
Good working knowledge of cybersecurity principals
Good communication, interpersonal, and writing skills
Five years of technical support experience in a higher education environment
Powershell scripting experience
Firewall administration experience
Course Management System support experience (Canvas)
Experience with virtualization and containers
Knowledge of database management
Experience supporting statistical software such as R, Stata and SPSS
ArcGIS support experience
Adobe Suite support experience
Workstation and server hardening
Imaging and system deployment
Centralized Patch Management
Cloning / Disk Imaging Software
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position will be required to move workstation computers and other hardware on a regular basis. This equipment can weigh up to 50 pounds.
This position will be expected to assist in after hours support on rare occasions and will be required to assist when necessary in all phases of departmental activity at specific times during the year due to the fact that the department is small.
