STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Senior Special Programs Coordinator - Cooperative Education coordinates the Cooperative Education and Internship Program by assisting with the administration and development of the program. This will include responsibilities such as providing assistance and support to students desiring to engage in cooperative education, related courses, internships and other experiential education opportunities, communicating with businesses and community partners to develop academic internships, and working collaboratively with faculty and staff to promote opportunities College-wide and across all campuses.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean of the Lash Center of Teaching and Learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in coordinating the daily operations of the Cooperative Education and Internship Program; working collaboratively to strategize, plan, and implement departmental goals that are consistent with the College's strategic plan and meet the needs of students and employers.
Collaborate with co-op team regarding program management and plans for special events.
Maintain relationships with other institutions of higher education including, but not limited to, internship coordinators and career service professionals at colleges and universities.
Represent the program at regional, community and professional service-related meetings and events.
Assist with the development, implementation, and analysis of data regarding program outcomes for continuous improvement.
Student Recruitment and Support
Plan and implement recruitment strategies to promote experiential education opportunities to all students.
Advise, counsel, and educate students regarding internship opportunities and career readiness, internship search methods, and college/department/program internship policies and guidelines.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate internships into academic programs and promote internships through various marketing strategies.
Coordinate and facilitate information sessions and pre-registration processes, including reviewing applications, transcripts, accepting students, course registration, resume/interviewing assistance, and schedule coordination.
Provide internship assessment, assistance, guidance, and resource information, as well as serve as an advocate for students with community agencies.
Internship Placement Development
Foster and maintain employer relationships.
Review incoming co-op postings, manage on-campus recruiting events, maintain a current co-op vacancy listing/portal for use by students, and provide motivation and ongoing support for students new to the field.
Plan and implement recruitment strategies that market the Cooperative Education Program and other College programs, as well as develop internship sites with the business community, community-based organizations, non-profits, and government agencies in the region.
Work closely with co-op advisory board to promote program and develop placements.
Collaborate with Cooperative Education (CED) faculty to ensure course alignment and seamless transition of students and employers.
Serve as a resource to the College community by providing employer feedback and related industry standards, as well as contacts for advisory boards, guest speakers, informational interviews and projects, etc.
Ensure student and employer information is in a database and utilize database to facilitate communication and follow-up with students, as well as track services that are provided.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Lash Center as mutually agreed upon and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Human Resources, or closely related field.
Minimum of three years of experience in Experiential Education.
Proficiency with online data management, recruiting systems, and office technology skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience in project management.
Demonstrated ability to relate to community college students and recognize and respond to individual learning needs and preferences.
Demonstrated commitment to working as a member of a team, the community college mission, and experiential education.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Familiarity with teaching at the community college level.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, full time, unit position with benefits.
SALARY: $55,827 - $103,040 - Labor Grade - 5 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
