Overview
The Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, a world-leading fusion energy research center under contract with the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), invites applications for a Staff Specialist - Institutional Risk and Performance Management (IRPM). The incumbent Staff Specialist - IRPM assists with the implementation of the Laboratory's risk and performance management programs intended to guide monitoring, performance assessment and resulting strategies and decisions needed to meet its goals in delivering the PPPL research mission. The Staff Specialist collects, organizes and analyzes performance data and information and maintains interfaces across the Laboratory's organization that are vital to the integration and effective use of its performance management tools.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the Staff Specialist are noted as follows:
- Supports the development of strategies, processes, communications, and reporting tools to implement effective risk and performance management programs
- Supports the use and update of a formal, published schedule that defines the annual cycle of performance management events and activities
- Supports effective and successful implementation of the Annual Laboratory Plan (ALP) and Performance Evaluation and Management Plan (PEMP) objectives and Notable Outcomes
- Administers key performance indicators (KPIs) at the institutional, department and management system levels including collection, organization and analysis of resulting data, consultation with data stream owners and distillation into relevant, meaningful use by Laboratory management and staff
- Identifies gaps/trends/inefficiencies/needs, communicates findings, recommends changes, and effectively collaborates with stakeholders throughout the Laboratory to implement solutions
- Coordinates data collection, analyses, reviews and intervention of the PPPL Institutional Risk Management Committee in the identification, documentation, mitigation and monitoring of institutional risks; finds new ways to analyze and present information and provides additional ad hoc analysis in order to measure off-cycle performance
- Organizes and supports meetings and workshops to review risk and performance data and information and take timely and effective action(s) to deal with adverse performance and trends; includes effective agenda planning, facilitation, and tracking/follow-up on deliverables
- Maintains performance management action items in the PPPL CATS and monitors and assists assignees in their timely and effective closeout
- Maintains an internal website as a performance management information resource available to Laboratory management and staff, and collaborates with Laboratory stakeholders in Laboratory-wide performance communications.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in working with management systems intrinsic to managing and operating a DOE Office of Science research laboratory
- Strong capabilities in the use of spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation software
- Experience in the collection, organization and analysis of performance data and information
- Experience in the conduct of event and issue causal factor analyses
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence and demonstrated ability to work with a broad range of work activities and subject matters
- Demonstrated team building skills, including the ability to work effectively with peers, other organizations, and key sponsors and stakeholders
