The Office of Sponsored Projects Manager directs the workflow and tasks of the research administration staff assigned to obtain, complete, submit and administer internal and external grant and contract applications related to clinical and medical research projects. The Manager is responsible for process of management for all research awards, grants, and funded projects, including reviewing purchases to assure compliance with internal/external funding agencies' rules and regulations, and to ensure accurate accounting for all projects and grants. A key responsibility of this role is to routinely apprise senior leadership of Nemours Biomedical Research with regard to grant and project status, regardless of funding source.
Participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifies opportunities to improve services, makes recommendations and implements actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
Responsible for staff oversight, coordination of workflow and monitoring of the Office of Sponsored Projects team. Provides direct grant application and contract administration services pertaining to application forms and coordination assistance as related to obtaining and maintaining approved internal and extramural funding for clinical and medical research purposes.
Monitors maintenance of files pertaining to research projects. Assures compliance with requirements for specific grants. Keeps accurate records on grant projects, filing internal and external reports as needed. Reviews PI protocol reports for general correctness. Meets with the Principle Investigator or their designee on specific questions.
Oversees the expenditure of federal, non-federal and other types of funding to determine that the cost meets the criteria contained in the various applicable cost principles. Monitors indirect costs to assure that the types of indirect cost rates and cost sharing, if applicable, are appropriate. Responsible for the review and process of salary distributions within TimeKeeper and Lawson systems. Coordinate, update and approve TimeKeeper and Lawson HR employee profile updates for salary distributions and plan effort allocations.
Acts as the liaison within Office of Sponsored Projects of Nemours Delaware Valley and Florida locations and our academic partners. Participates as the key contact person for audits and related documentation. Serves as a primary contact person for investigators, industry sponsors and granting agencies.
Assures accurate completion of all required internal and external reports in a timely manner and/or as required by external agencies, including maintenance of an up-to-date list of key contact personnel for all active funding agencies. Responsible for final review of all financial expenditures, commitments and budgets in preparation of the internal closeout process and external financial reporting.
Meets regularly with the Director of Research Administrative Services and Associate and Assistant Administrators to keep senior leadership apprised of Sponsored Projects activities and advise of any barriers to meeting customer service and funding goals.
Facilitates effective working relationship between the Office of Sponsored Projects and Research Accounting. Meets regularly with the Research Accounting Manager to develop process flow and productive problem solving.
Works with The Office of Sponsored Projects team to adequately forecast cash requirements for federal programs and request federal funds in a timely manner to keep federal cash disbursements limited to the protocol's immediate needs through procedures approved by Research Administration.
Responsible for participation in preparing departmental budgets in cooperation with individual investigators and Senior Research Leadership for submission to the Nemours Foundation. Monitors and implements any approved budget changes requested for projects, grants and contracts.
Acts as a lead business role in system upgrades, data audits and maintenance, as well as new system implementations within Research Administration.
