This role will execute the design and development of web-based content for use in technology-enhanced educational materials, to be presented online via learning management systems (LMS), content management systems (CMS), and other client-facing platforms. The successful candidate will work closely in collaboration with instructional technologists and University faculty to design and develop such materials. Expertise in contemporary markup languages, stylesheets, scripts and other commonly used web standards is a must, but he/she must also be able to find creative alternatives within a secure system that restricts certain options. He or she should be a creative thinker with interdisciplinary development skills in the areas of mobile responsiveness, UX/UI, visual aesthetics, accessibility, security and optimization. The ideal candidate will be a proficient self-starter who takes ownership of his/her work, meeting deadlines, prioritizing workload and efficiently managing time. Solid interpersonal and communication skills are a must, and the ideal candidate will take ownership of his/her work (meeting deadlines, prioritizing workload and efficiently managing time), as well as contributing to the success of a high-performance team through shared accountabilities. The ability to adapt to changing business needs in a maturing environment is vital to succeeding in this role.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education: Master's degree
Required Experience: 4+ years of related Web Development experience.
Preferred Experience: 6+ years of Web Development experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to collaborate with designers and subject matter experts to create exceptional device-aware web content. Provide accurate estimates regarding the time required to complete assignments. Handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to unforeseen events and bottlenecks. Provide efficient troubleshooting related to developing materials. Take on delegated tasks with a minimum of supervision. Possess thorough and contemporary knowledge in the following areas: markup languages, stylesheets, scripts and other foundational web standards. Also familiar with Google Apps and Microsoft Office Suite. Comprehensive experience with learning management systems and content management systems. Awareness of accessibility guidelines, responsive design, and development using best practices. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Have interest and ability to learn new skills and software, and evolve as the needs of the department change.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Familiarity with databases (i.e. MySQL, SQLite). Familiarity with Amazon Web Services. Experience in higher education. Adobe creative suite. Interest in WebGL, WebVR, and emerging technologies. Project management skills. Familiarity with Jira and task management software.
