A Manager in the Destinations International organization is responsible for working with one or more Directors for executing operations that support the operational goals of the group. Managers are responsible for being a part of a positive team environments as well as efficiency and implementing quality measures within their group. Managers are responsible for planning with Directors and then implementing daily tasks and assignments of the organization. The individual updates their job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, maintaining professional networks, and participating in Destinations International’s professional events, meetings and member organizations. A Manager enhances team performance by ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in their position and accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests from the Director of Education and EVP of Educational Development and Meetings.
Position Description Summary
Please note: The Certification and Program Manager must have a willingness and capability to travel 8-12 times per year both domestically and internationally as necessary.
The Certification and Program Manager is primarily responsible for implementing procedures and creation of documents and supporting reports for continuing professional development in support of the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) and Professional in Destination Management (PDM) programs and certification. Program development and support are planned with the Director of Education and EVP of Educational Development and Meetings. The Manager will work with the meetings team members to ensure programming logistics, and necessary policies are completed and are efficient and effective and within budget. In addition, the Certification and Program Manager will primarily support the CDME board efforts and initiatives. Travel will be required to various CDME and PDM programs to ensure proper function of all continuing professional development. The Manager in support of the Director, EVP, and other members of the Destinations International staff will create programs that meet the needs of the members, address educational advancements in tourism and travel, and supports the mission and vision of the organization. This position reports directly to the Director of Education.
Work collaboratively with the appropriate Destination International teams and committees, CDME board and education contractors, to participate in implementation of CDME and PDM educational programming, including speaker confirmations, speaker requirements, onsite speaker needs and program delivery.
Assisting the Director of Education to evaluate workload effectiveness of current resources used to support delivery of education.
Review of budgets and spending with the Director of Finance, Director of Education and EVP of Educational Development and Meetings to ensure programs are maintaining costs.
Work with speakers to ensure appropriate presentation and documentation necessary, including ensuring review of presentation slides, or other media in timely manner with appropriate Directors.
Assisting with developing and implementing professional development plans and programs that incorporate the best practices in adult learning behavioral science.
Managing the evaluation process for CDME and PDM programs, including assessment and reporting.
Managing candidate selection and certification progress processes for all application-based programs.
Managing accreditation activities including calculating credits, providing certificates of participation, collection of data, and ensuring proper record keeping.
Support of the Destinations International mission and vision, and participating in creating a culture of leadership and collegiality within the organization.
Qualifications for this Position
A minimum requirement of a Baccalaureate Degree.
Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), and/or CDME certification preferred.
A minimum of 3 years experience in certification work, project management, and educational programming, with preferred experience in the not-for-profit, professional association or travel and tourism industries.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Prefer candidates with interest in disruptive educational strategies.
The ability to manage multiple projects in stressful and time sensitive environments.
Exceptional verbal, written, active listening and interpersonal skills.
Proven customer service abilities for both internal and external customers.
Strong writing skills with strong proof-reading skills; high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
Be capable of advocating for the Organization’s mission and department goals.
Be willing to reside in the Washington D.C. area and work in an office environment full time.
Willingness and capability to travel 8-12 times per year both domestically and internationally as necessary.
