Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Editor/Media Specialist for the department of University Brand and Marketing. This position reports to the Associate Director, Brand and Marketing and Editor, Rutgers.edu. The Senior Editor/Media Specialist is responsible for the content creation for Rutgers.edu and other assigned websites and digital communications channels. The position is expected to proactively recommend new content for Rutgers.edu and identify the best formats to deliver that content (i.e. video, animation, web banners, etc.). Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for creating original content, editing others content, and organizing and updating content for Rutgers.edu and other digital platforms communications platforms.
Proposes and implements improvements to the format of the content on the Rutgers.edu website and other digital channels to achieve desired goals.
Researches, writes, and/or edits original or submitted web content, images or other content types.
Develops and/or implements supporting processes and procedures for the Rutgers.edu website, including content scheduling; and tests webpages for desired information architecture and organization.
Works with digital design and development teams, contributes to digital communications strategies and discussions.
Coordinates and leads digital project teams and performs routine and non-routine tasks working within and across university departments.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communication, marketing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and understanding of website management and publishing.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications or marketing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to adapt to changing demands.
Must be organized and detail-oriented with strong planning and problem-solving experience.
Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Able to work effectively under pressure of deadlines while managing multiple priorities independently with the support of supervisor.
Ability to plan, organize and implement both short-term and long-term website updates and development working autonomously and as part of a group with an understanding of best practices in information architecture, web standards, and user experience for successful user engagement.
Understanding of website accessibility requirements.
Writing is a main task in this position, therefore the candidate must have demonstrated success as a creative story teller with a natural curiosity for information and news with the ability to craft content that conveys value for audiences and copy that is relatable and concise in a range of voices in various styles, from marketing blurbs and features, to reports and video scripts.
The ideal candidate must be committed to providing accurate information and is persistent in researching content.
The candidate must be a creative thinker, who has demonstrated expertise recommending and advocating for new ideas and demonstrates ownership in their ideas to see them through implementation.
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and experience using a content management system to develop and publish web content.
Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, English, journalism, or related field.
Ability to plan, write, and direct video segments and create compelling graphic elements is a plus.
Experience in Drupal and/or Wordpress
Experience with Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, and video production highly desirable.
Must be able to use Microsoft Office, Office 365 Groups, content management system.
Comfortable working in MAC or PC environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Some evening and weekend work required.
Occasional inter-campus travel required.
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
