This position will be a key member of the Department of Medicine core central unit and works in collaboration with the School of Medicine, Health Sciences Marketing, Campus, Department Faculty, and Staff to reinforce website development and maintenance. Position works within a high volume, fast paced environment with changing priorities and requires tact, political acumen, diplomacy, and discretion on a wide variety of complex and sensitive matters. Position requires a broad knowledge of website development and maintenance as well as communication principles and organization. Basic Knowledge of HTML and other web programming languages preferred.
Additionally, the Specialist will work closely with the Administrative Vice Chair and the Director of Faculty and Staff Affairs to update content on departmentally managed websites in the Department. The position requires interviewing, reporting, and writing articles for the Department websites and newsletters, as well as for all research, divisional, and lab websites. The Specialist will post content at a high level on science and medical topics, but also be flexible enough to write about news, events, and activities within the Department. Position requires a sound background in copywriting and SharePoint maintenance, including uploading to custom HTML code, pictures, and documents.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
Thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
Thorough interpersonal communication skills.
Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
Demonstrated ability to read and analyze technical or complex content and write on those subjects in understandable terms for a general audience.
Demonstrated research and interviewing skills to gather data using traditional and electronic methods.
Ability to research, write and edit text of various styles and lengths on a broad range of subjects under tight deadlines.
Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience working in a scientific/medical research environment.
