Harvard Planning and Project Management (HPPM) is responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction of a major new Science and Engineering Complex, including supporting roadway and infrastructure improvements on Harvard University's campus in Allston.
The Assistant Project Manager reports to the Enabling Senior Project Manager, and is responsible for supporting the Enabling project management team in the day to day activities associated with the enabling scope of work which includes new Harvard University owned streets, thermal and other utilities, parking lots, street tree plantings and improvements to the public way in Allston.
Participates as a member of HPPM's professional team in the design, construction, permitting approvals for the enabling roadways, parking lots and utilities packages: Support the HPPM project management staff in the project delivery process through the design, construction and close-out phases of the project. Facilitates communication throughout projects, particularly during transition from one phase to the next. Develops and maintains project schedules and budgets from planning through project closeout. Communicates to the Senior Project Manager issues affecting project quality, budget, scope, timeline or delivery.
Participates in the owner's construction meetings, contributing to the review of construction progress and quality. Supports the HPPM project management staff on all change proposal reviews, and project schedule and budget updates. Responsible for reporting on field project quality control systems. Supports review and coordination of all submittals to ensure expeditious processing.
Participates as necessary in observing on site tests required by the contract documents and supports coordination of testing activities by agents retained by the Owner. Observes and reviews the contractor's record drawings and reports any apparent failure by the contractor to maintain records. Supports the HPPM project management staff in coordinating an efficient and orderly project closeout process. Works with HPPM project management staff, consultants and operations personnel to prepare a punch-list for the contractor, and ensure punch-list items have been addressed appropriately.
Participates in the review of all project invoices, including the monthly contractor requisition. Supports HPPM project management in executing their duties to manage project cost control; provides budget updates and reviews proposed change orders.
Participates in the value engineering process.
Supports the HPPM project management staff in submissions to jurisdictional authorities for permitting. Supports all efforts to ensure compliance with regulations and all authorities having jurisdiction.

Minimum 4 to 6 years' experience working in positions of growing responsibility on institutional fitout projects, preferably in a higher education setting.
Bachelor's degree in a technical field (engineering or architecture) related to construction, project management or the equivalent.
Experience on site projects in excess of $10M
Field experience on construction sites.
Competency with the following software systems: eBuilder, BIM, Microsoft Office Suite
