General Statement of Duties: Assists the Director of Digital Learning in the planning, development, and implementation of on-line courses, programs and initiatives. Works collegially with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community to advance the goals of digital learning at Fitchburg State University.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborates with and supports the Director of Digital Learning to provide support and training for faculty and students involved in distance education.
Provide instructional design consultation, guidance, and support to faculty subject matter experts in the design and development of online, blended, and flipped courses.
Provides continuous training for faculty on instructional design processes such as conducting needs analyses, developing learning outcomes, specifying instructional strategies, and designing instructional materials.
Deliver training and faculty development offerings which foster adoption of effective practices and educational technologies for online and digital course design and teaching.
Recommends the appropriate tools, media, and teaching strategies to accomplish course goals, objectives and outcomes, assisting with the identification, selection and application of appropriate assessment tools and strategies needed by faculty.
Works collaboratively with team members; editing, reviewing and evaluating instructional materials; assisting with embedding and formatting learning objects; and providing quality assurance testing and post production work.
Regularly updates and manages the student introductory course for online learners.
Works with appropriate university staff and faculty to ensure standards and policies are met in promoting integrity in online education including meeting accreditation standards.
Keeps current on national trends in online learning.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction or related field, Master’s degree preferred with a minimum 2- 3 years of online learning experience.
Proven understanding of tools for teaching, including emerging technologies and online learning tools. Specific experience with Blackboard LMS and LTI tools is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in teaching online courses preferred.
Demonstrated experience developing creative and engaging training materials in a variety of formats and media.
Familiarity with models and strategies of instructional design with demonstrated experience in curriculum development, emphasizing competency-based instruction.
Familiarity with copyright, open licensing options, fair use, and creative commons.
Understanding of trends in higher education, such as distance learning, adaptive learning, competency-based education, use of open education resources (OER), etc.; understanding of higher education and regulatory issues and how these impact online learning.
Experience in creating ADA compliant content relevant to a culturally diverse audience with different values, beliefs and attitudes.
Understanding of outcomes assessment and continuous quality improvement.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI check).
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
