This position will support financial aid operations related to state, federal and university financial programs, and provide direct customer service to constituents. As a part of a dynamic leadership team, this position will help provide direction for the operational and strategic planning functions of the office.
This position supervises office staff and is responsible for providing training, offering support and guidance, conducting oversight of primary functions, and leading staff in the implementation of programs and services. The position interviews, hires, trains, coordinates, disciplines, and evaluates performance of staff. This position serves as a liaison between staff supervised and office leadership.
This position is responsible for general office operations and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and requirements, and must maintain in-depth knowledge of federal, state and other agency laws, regulations, and requirements. This requires professional judgment, review and processing related to (but not limited to) student's satisfactory academic progress (SAP), completing Return of Title IV aid calculations and returns, working with academic departments in regards to GAANN stipends for research, and working with other institutions when required.
This position serves as the PeopleSoft functional lead for the financial aid office and must monitor the system for accuracy and timeliness, look for ways to gain efficiencies with the software, and work collaboratively with the other University of Missouri System campuses; responsible for bundle testing, testing of critical patch software fixes, and implementing new functionality of software; responsible for maintenance of the Net Price Calculator and is the point of contact for UM System programmers with Enterprise Applications Services (EAS) and ImageNow teams.
As Associate Director, this position represents the Student Financial Assistance office in the absence of the Director.
This position must maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive documents, issues, and information.

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Bachelor's degree in business administration, student personnel services, information technology, or a related area. A minimum of five years of experience in student financial aid programs, including knowledge of state and federal regulations on student financial aid administration and experience and skill in public speaking, data analysis, project management, and customer service.
A Master's degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired as well as five to seven years progressive financial aid experience is preferred.
Leadership skills working with professional and office support staff, excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, the ability to interact professionally with diverse personalities and excellent verbal and written communication skills are requested.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong working knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, strong interpersonal presentation skills; self-starter; able to work with minimum supervision when required; strong attention to detail; exceptional customer service and interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation); knowledge of PeopleSoft and the Microsoft Office Suite a strong plus.
