Overview of Position
This position is for an Elementary Librarian, beginning August 2019. This teacher will report to the Elementary Division Head and will work in close collaboration with the colab teacher and grade level teaching teams. This is a full time teaching position.
Teach K-4th grade weekly library skills classes which cover orientation to the collection and online catalog; digital citizenship more broadly as well as online research skills, including web search and evaluation, use of research databases, and MLA citation format, in conjunction with Humanities research projects; and literature appreciation.
Assist in teaching 2nd-4th grade colab classes in conjunction with research projects or projects where additional support is needed (typically 2 periods weekly)
Create TK library opportunities in collaboration with TK teaching team
Lead book talks launching independent reading assignments at the upper elementary grades
Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation, collection development, managing overdue materials, cataloging, research assistance, and tech support
Collaborate with colab teacher, grade level lead teachers, and the cross campus library department
Provide library supervision daily at morning recess, some lunch times, and after school
Arrange for author and illustrator assemblies, guest speakers, or grade level presentations that will reinforce curricular learning goals as well as illuminate our identity safe DEI work throughout the year
Manage the annual book fair, including securing dates, managing parent volunteers, and tracking budget
Arrange for weekly volunteers to support K-1st grade classes and general library maintenance such as reshelving and book covering/repair
Maintain positive relationships with parents, assisting with book selection for students and families as needed
Continue to ensure the elementary library collection and displays highlight a diverse representation of authors, illustrators, characters, settings and languages so that all students and families see themselves as well as their cultural and religious traditions represented within the collection and the library itself

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification, indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position
In addition to required qualifications, desirable additional skills include:
MLS/MLIS or relevant coursework or certification indicating advanced knowledge in areas related to the responsibilities of the job
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent interpersonal skills
Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
Knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning
Nuanced understanding of DEI/social justice knowledge from a personal or programmatic perspective
Participation on committees as needed and appropriate
Ancillary duties include responsibilities that are part of elementary school life, e.g., team and staff meetings, attendance at school functions, and recess duties weekly
Oversight of a "family" of mixed-grade students once a month
