Harvard Kennedy School Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA) is looking for an energetic and self-motivated Associate Director of Communications. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, the successful candidate will lead efforts to enhance the School's reputation and impact through an integrated and strategic communications agenda, which includes supporting a vibrant Kennedy School community. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and strategic leader with a successful track record of executing both internal and external communication strategies within an agency setting, a higher education institution, or a not-for-profit organization.
The position requires skill in working with senior leadership, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as leading newsmakers visiting the HKS campus. The position will be responsible for project management within OCPA, working closely with the department leadership to ensure that team members meet established deadlines. Experience in developing and exploiting top tier media contacts is a plus.
Experience in internal communications, public and media relations, and project management is critical. Expressed commitment to the mission of education, scholarship, and research is essential, as well as an understanding of and commitment to the promotion of effective public policy.
·Working in conjunction with the Director of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, serve
as liaison to the Kennedy School's research centers and school-wide departments providing strategic communications advice, sharing information and best practices.
·Develop and execute an internal communications and change management strategies that aligns with the HKS mission and core values and that engages with the Kennedy School community.
·Produce a monthly HKS internal newsletter for faculty, staff, and students.
·Manage the HKS internal website, KNet, to ensure effective communication of HKS news, priorities, policies, and events.
·Seek out ways to enhance communication across HKS units to promote collaboration as well as consistency of messaging and brand integration.
·Work closely with senior HKS administration to maintain and implement use of name policies to ensure HKS brand protection.
·Facilitate the promotion of Kennedy School, its faculty, research and ideas, students, and alumni externally and across the Harvard community.
·Assist with media outreach, identifying and cultivating top-tier media contacts and conducting outreach for major HKS projects and events.
·Develop standards and implement processes to effectively monitor and analyze the effectiveness of specific communications campaigns and efforts.
·Track department-wide projects and assisting the Associate Dean of Communications and the OCPA management team in ensuring that deadlines and deliverables are met.
·Contribute written and other forms of content for HKS channels and platforms.

Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, or communications
Minimum 5 years of experience in public relations, marketing, or strategic communications in an academic or agency setting.
·Superior organizational skills required, along with a demonstrated ability to think strategically and critically.
·Excellent writing, editing, oral communications, and interpersonal skills
·Proven track record of moving projects forward while anticipating future demands and opportunities.
·Project management skills – familiarity with the Trello project management platform a plus.
·Must be able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and to develop and implement forward-thinking and creative strategies.
·Confident decision maker; self-starter with high energy/drive.
·Must be detail and results focused.
·Ability to work both independently and as a team member
·Experience in promoting events, research, book releases, etc.
·Familiarity with Cision, Meltwater, and Mail Chimp a plus.
