The Department of Epidemiology, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, studies the frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in humans, a fundamental science of public health. We are seeking a team-oriented and dynamic Research Assistant II to join our prostate cancer epidemiology team led by Dr. Lorelei Mucci in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our innovative prostate cancer epidemiology research group is comprised of Harvard faculty, physicians, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral and masters students, biostatisticians, and Research Assistants. The overarching goal of our work is to use data from large cancer epidemiological studies, including genomics and biomarker data, pathology information, and clinical outcomes, to better understand prostate cancer risk and progression. Our group collaborates closely with researchers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard teaching hospitals as well as international researchers through collaborations.
This is an ideal position for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in cancer research, medicine, or public health. The Research Assistant II will be an integral member of our team and be given the opportunity to make important contributions to a variety of research activities, as well as to be an author on published research. We are looking for a diligent, collaborative, and assertive individual seeking a progressive, stimulating, and top-tier research environment.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Carefully maintain our prostate tissue database and assist with tissue collection as needed in partnership with the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study research team
Coordinate interactions with epidemiologists, pathologists, and lab technicians at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Tissue Microarray Core for prostate cancer tissue based projects (including pathological review of tissue, biomarker staining, and construction of tissue microarrays)
Work closely with faculty on literature searches, grant writing, and manuscript writing with the opportunity to be an author on published papers
Work with our biostatisticians to assist with database quality control and statistical analyses for manuscripts and grants
Schedule, organize agenda, and participate in meetings with our research team and collaborators
Work in partnership with the PI and Project Manager to maintain and update the Cancer Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention website and social media; assist academic events and programs as needed
Interact regularly and participate in meetings with members of our international collaborations, including the Transdiscplinary Prostate Cancer Partnership (www.topcapteam.org), and IRONMAN (https://ironmanregistry.org/)
Maintain regular communication with other researchers in our prostate cancer working group to update them about study progress
Coordinate medical record coding sessions and review pathology reports and medical records from men with prostate cancer to record medical information related to cancer diagnosis
Actively participate in fundraising and awareness events pertaining to the Movember Foundation
Other duties as assigned

2+ years of related work experience; combination of education and experience may be considered.
Bachelor's Degree with interest in cancer research, molecular biology, public health, medicine, and/or biological sciences highly preferred
Experience with SAS and MS Office preferred
Interest, experience in web design, communications, and social media is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred
Excellent analytical and logical reasoning skills preferred
Excellent quantitative skills as well as experience with statistical programming is a strong plus
Proactive, independent, and assertive, but also works well in a team preferred
Strong attention to detail and experience multitasking/managing multiple priorities preferred
