Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 19,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. Rowan Innovations, the technology and economic development arm of Rowan University, fosters business incubation and start-up companies in close partnership with the Office of Technology Commercialization. Located at the SJTP, Rowan Innovations develops the entrepreneurial ecosystem and support for new business ventures that helps Rowan faculty spin out businesses into SJTP and recruits external technology companies to locate at the Tech Park. Serving as a portal to Rowan’s research activity, Rowan Innovations also develops university-industry research collaborations.
The Development Manager will generate new business opportunities for Rowan Innovations and the Virtual Reality Center and increase its profile within the University as well as externally with prospective clients. The ideal candidate is a positive, goal-orientated person that will build and leverage relationships with the University community and external partners. This position reports to the Managing Director of Rowan Innovations and the Executive Director of SJTP. The job includes but is not limited to:
Develop & implement a business outreach strategy for the Virtual Reality Center to create leads from companies interested in exploring using VR for their business applications.
Market and promote the VR Center’s capabilities, in coordination with other staff, using a variety of channels, including social media to create a profile and greater visibility to generate a steady stream of prospective clients.
Engage and cultivate relationships with faculty, entrepreneurs and industry clients as well as administrative and academic units to utilize Rowan Innovations services and the VR Center’s capabilities.
Connect Rowan Innovations entrepreneurs to Rowan’s resources, faculty and students who can solve a problem or fill a need for these growing companies.
Participate in business and industry events to raise awareness of Rowan Innovations, the Virtual Reality Center and the SJTP to build relationships that lead to successful partnerships.
Support Rowan Innovations program of business and technology commercialization events working in coordination with other staff.
Create proposals, prepare reports, respond to requests and provide administrative support.
A Bachelors degree in business, marketing or related field with at least 3 years of work experience.
A people person with excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Experience in generating leads, building relationships and making fruitful connections.
Effective presentation and marketing skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly and simply.
Strong project management and coordination skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines as well as conceptualize new solutions to problems.
A team player with strong collaboration skills.
Understanding of business environment.
A self-starter with plenty of drive, initiative and motivation.
Experience with and/or understanding of the tristate entrepreneurial ecosystem and academic institutions.
A desire to work around new and emerging technologies and with faculty and entrepreneurs developing new ventures.
