Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Special Projects Manager for the Dean’s Office. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Special Projects Manager is responsible for projects relating to operations & administration to meet areas of the institution and/or community served by New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). This senior level position will require an advanced skill set in project management and team building to effectuate business process redesign efforts and system configurations and rollouts related to purchasing, accounts payable and travel.
In consultation with the Chief Operating Officer, and/or users, formulates project objectives and requirements.
Responsible for overall planning and execution of various system related projects, including identifying and managing project scope, risk management, issues management, cost management, quality management, sequence, schedule, performance, advice, coaching and managing subject matter experts assigned to each project.
Responsible for all aspects of project management including developing and managing project teams, project timelines, project budgets and preparing and delivering status reports to key executives.
Creates and presents status reports to leadership team.
Manages all aspects of communication within both the department and with external constituents.
Manages teams of consultants as required for projects and manages contracts associated with these engagements.
Helps coordinate school-wide NJMS events and activities for various work-groups (e.g. Board of Advisors, Retired Faculty group.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in business, IT or related field.
Five (5) years of successful progressive project management experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectuate change management in a large complex setting.
Proven track record and experience in the management of large and complex projects requiring the collection, review, and evaluation of business processes.
Must meet project deadlines.
Must be able to manage multiple program rollouts at the same time.
Demonstrates individual initiative to drive projects through to completion.
Must possess strong oral, written, presentation, and customer service skills
Must have the ability to make independent decision and recommendations.
Ability to absorb and process large quantities of disparate information and synthesize quickly.
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing cross functional teams and consensus building at all levels.
Ability to manage consultant engagements effectively including contract management and cost containment.
Proficiency at using Microsoft’s suite of office products including Microsoft Project.
Working knowledge of purchasing and accounts payable operations and principles.
