EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Prescribe all radiographs.
Supervise all radiographic procedures including: compliance with safety regulations; monitoring of film quality/darkroom light leaks (reference films, digital sensor quality, coin test for light leaks); patient set-up /infection control procedures; selection of exposure time, film speed and cone; radiographic procedures and film/sensor placement; radiographic processing (film); advising on retakes; mounting of all film-based radiographs; evaluate all radiographs for technique and pathology; interpretation of all radiographs; charting from radiographs; documentation of all findings; and patient referrals.
Diagnose patient problems and refer suspicious areas to patient's dentist or physician.
Prescribe local anesthesia.
Administer local anesthesia when needed.
Provide supervision while students administer local anesthesia to patients.
Supervise and evaluate all requirements for local anesthesia.
Assist in the administration of emergency care.
Evaluate patients who come to the clinic for dental emergencies and refer to the appropriate dentist/dental specialist.
Write out prescriptions as needed (chlorhexidine gluconate, fluoride paste, amorphous calcium phosphate products).
Supervise and evaluate all requirements for the following: impressions, study models and whitening.
Supervise and evaluate freshman students for dental charting and occlusion.
Complete TalEval evaluation criteria for radiology, dental charting/occlusion and local anesthesia, and record into patients' Eaglesoft heath record and students' TalEval Daily Evaluation form.
For reasons of legality, dentists must remain in the dental hygiene clinic until all clinic patients are dismissed.
Attend Dental Hygiene meetings as scheduled.
Implement protocols established by the Dental Hygiene Program.
Current Massachusetts Dental License.
Demonstrated teaching experience.
Appropriate academic credentials.
Professional experience in the field.
COMPENSATION: $60.00/hour, up to 18 hours per week; Mondays and/or Wednesdays 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-5:30 p.m. Non-benefited, MCCC Unit Position.
