In cooperation with the Detroit Police Department (DPD), as well as participating criminal justice agencies serving the City of Detroit, the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking an academic specialist to work as a crime analyst with the Detroit Police Department under several U.S. Department of Justice grant programs for which MSU serves as the Research Partner (RP) to DPD. DPD and the MSU RP team seek to increase the analytical capacity and coordination of a number of federally-supported initiatives to combat youth and violent crime in the city of Detroit. The goals include providing analytical support and tools to enhance proactive data-driven and intelligence-led coordinated crime prevention and control. The crime analyst will provide a variety of analytical services including tracking crime trends and patterns; identifying people, places, and networks driving violent crime in Detroit; tracking enforcement, prosecution, prevention and intervention activities; coordinating analytical and research activities with the MSU research partner team; and related project management, research and analytical responsibilities as assigned. The crime analyst will be expected to develop reports and products to support violence reduction efforts. The crime analyst will be supervised by the MSU Principal Investigator in coordination with DPD. Strict adherence to protocols for confidentiality and sharing of information will be required. The analyst will need to undergo background checks conducted by DPD (unless already conducted and approved).
Masters -LEIA, Criminal Justice or Related Field
A masters degree in law enforcement intelligence and analysis, criminal justice, or a related field is required.
A minimum of six months of full or part-time experience in crime analysis, criminal justice or related research.
