Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Media Coordinator provides technical support to the Film Department faculty and students. This position operates under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Chair, and the production faculty to support day-to-day operations of the equipment stockroom, production studio, and other film production spaces in the department. The Media Coordinator manages student employees who work in the stockroom and oversees stockroom organization and checkout procedures. The Media Coordinator also troubleshoots technical issues relating to classrooms and screening spaces in the Film Department when needed.
The Media Coordinator supports the department's curricular mission by:
Assisting with the maintenance, storage, troubleshooting, and student and faculty usage of sophisticated professional equipment (cameras, lights, sound recorders, grip, and other equipment);
Supporting the organization and maintenance of several spaces crucial to Film Department courses (stockroom, editing suites, production studio, sound recording booth, and other production spaces), including keeping equipment inventoried and in its place;
Supporting the development, implementation, and oversight of best practices for stockroom organization, management, and equipment checkout procedures;
Supporting training of students on industry-standard software usage for film and sound editing, proper use of the equipment, and studio techniques;
Performing basic repairs or facilitating the repair of equipment with outside vendors;
Providing work direction to student workers who check in and check out equipment in the stockroom;
Covering hours in the stockroom that student workers cannot; and,
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications Requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a professional film-making environment. Must be proficient with high-definition digital cinema cameras (incl. lenses, filters, camera support) and digital sound recorders (incl. mics). Experience with 16mm filmmaking desirable. Advanced computer-based skills are required, including non-linear video editing (especially Adobe Premiere Pro), sound editing software (e.g. Pro-Tools). Facility with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Must be able to mentor, train, and support students in use of specialized equipment and software. Must have the ability to learn new skills required to keep current with ever-changing technology. Ability to rig lights in a studio grid system and familiarity with electrical distribution in a studio setting are strongly preferred. Must have excellent communication skills interacting with students, faculty, the College, vendors, and equipment technicians. Requires excellent organization skills. Must be willing and able to occasionally adjust work schedule to accommodate weekend and evening support for students as needed.
