Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Responsible for translating the goals and values of the University to all categories of prospective students. Participates in those activities involving the projection of the University's image to the public, assisting the student's transition into the University, keeping the University aware of changing characteristics of students, and securing for the University the students who can best profit from the educational opportunities offered by the University. Assists in reviewing applications for admissions and making decisions on admittance or denial to the University.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Responsible for participating in the total academic student recruiting program. Visits high schools, junior/community colleges, organizations, etc. as required, as part of the total student recruiting effort. Represents the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine at regional/national pre-health, science, and osteopathic medicine conferences. Advises prospective students about admissions status, policies, and office programs. Responds to inquiries, counsels prospective students, and serves as a primary point of contact for the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine. Creates and manages content and digital communications for news and social media announcements and updates. Processes applications with American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS), Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS) and SHSU supplemental applications. Assists academic departments in the recruitment of students by forwarding names of prospective students interested in their area. Screens applicants for interviews. Assists in identifying and contacting academically superior students. Identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted and enrolled under-represented students. Provides telephone calls and follow ups to prospective students. Assists the Director and Associate Director in executing the interview process. Monitors accepted students for deposits and administrative requirements. Assists in developing marketing techniques for the recruitment of students. Assists in the development, maintenance, and execution of the department's recruitment and communication plans. Makes contact with former students and with student organizations to assist in academic recruiting. Develops and maintains close working relationships with pre-health profession advisors. Assists in coordinating campus visit requests and tours of the campus by potential students and parents. Serves on office committees as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
May assist with the Saturday visitation programs (planning and implementing the programs, designing the information brochures, marketing the program, training and supervising student counselors, preparing all literature to be given to participants, planning all program activities, and evaluating the program).
