The Weapon Electrical Modeling department is seeking an advanced-degree level candidate to develop and exercise high-fidelity electrical system models. We address a range of challenging technical issues associated with assuring performance and safety goals across nuclear weapons programs. Regular responsibilities include developing device and circuit models, conducting simulations on Sandia's high performance computing clusters, validating results against specifications and test results, and reporting to customers. In this role, you will be expected to work on several projects simultaneously and in a teaming environment. Opportunities exist to work with either electromagnetic effects analysts, in-house code developers, or to pursue development/application of innovative modeling and analysis techniques.
You may also work on projects that consist of the following:
Conducting simulations on large multi-node, UNIX based computational platforms for the characterization of circuit performance and the determination of circuit sensitivities and uncertainty quantifications
Developing and simulating analog, or digital, or mixed mode circuit models
Developing a detailed understanding of customer requirements and verifying electrical devices, subsystems, and systems performance to those requirements
Working closely with systems engineers, designers, and testers to create models and analyze, validate, and report result
We analyze complex electrical circuit behavior for a variety of performance, safety, sensitivity, aging, or environmental issues. We work with multiple teams, mostly internal to Sandia, responsible for designing or maintaining electrical components or subsystems of high consequence systems. Our staff is comprised mainly of Master's-level and PhD-level electrical engineers who use modeling and simulation to assure that electrical system designs and products meet stringent requirements that include temperature extremes and radiation environments. In certain cases, we investigate why these systems deviate from expected behavior or requirements. Our analysis capability includes the effects of electromagnetic environments, such as lightning, electrostatic discharge, and electromagnetic radiation (EMR), on the safety and performance of complex systems, including facilities.

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
Analog circuit design and modeling experience
Experience with circuit simulation software (e.g. SPICE, PSpice, Xyce).
Experience using UNIX operating systems and/or High Performance Computing clusters.
Experience in the application of statistics to simulation results and analysis.
Proficiency in a high-level programming language (e.g. C/C++, Matlab, Python).
Knowledge of electromagnetic coupling and propagation analysis techniques.
Knowledge of Nuclear Weapons systems
Good verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience with teaming for results
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
