Detailed Job Description Act as the interface between RIT and the global printing industry and develop partnership with companies, government agencies, industry organizations, other academic institutions, and target high schools with a passion in advancing the printing education to establish RIT's reputation as the leading education and research institution for the global printing industry. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Engineering Technology.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Initiating, developing and maintaining relationships with industrial and other partners such as industry associations connected to the primary sectors of the print industry that result in:
support and upgrading of laboratories and facilities,
industrial partnerships for industry research
student scholarships, experiential education opportunities such as cooperative education, student research and study abroad
Implement promotional programs at target feeder schools, which include high schools and 2-year community colleges for the SMS undergraduate program, and 4-year colleges and universities for the SMS graduate program.
Conduct and document voice of the customer (VOC) feedback with board members and industry leaders and translate VOC into vision/mission statements, student recruitment strategy and promotional programs, research focuses, and requirements for the curriculum including hardware, software, and personnel.
Work closely with RIT partners such as Development, Alumni Relations and Enrollment Management to accomplish the goals of this position. For example, in collaboration with Alumni Relations, develop an active alumni base, alumni programs, and alumni engagement initiatives.
Increase the visibility of SMS by participating in and attending conferences and/or tradeshows or similar events.
Develop an Industrial Advisory Board and conduct board meetings in coordination with the Department Chair.
Work with CET-SMS Chair, faculty and staff members to evaluate existing undergraduate and graduate curriculum including initiating, enhancing and supporting initiatives such as:
curriculum updates and modifications and introducing new content areas
Market and recruit for the graduate and undergraduate programs with activities that increase enrollment (e.g. recruitment visits to national and international academic institutions including high schools and 2-year and 4-year colleges, implement promotional programs at target high schools and 2-year community colleges)
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Printing Management and Technology or other related fields.
20+ years of demonstrated and increasing management, leadership and technology experience in the Print Industry
Strong current network within the print industry and with print-related associations; Strong networking capability in the printing industry
Demonstrated strong technical print background and experience across the print industry sectors including traditional/commercial, and manufacturing
Up-to-date with the trends and directions in the printing industry
Strong technical skills in printing processes and optimization including but not limited to the conventional (offset, gravure, and screen), digital printing technologies, and functional/industrial print, spot color reproduction and extended color gamut
Demonstrated knowledge and application of printing standards and applications, experimental design, execution, and result analysis
Strong interpersonal skills, presentation skills, writing and ability to work with a variety of student and industry populations and teams
Demonstrated project management and follow through
